Hey guys
Basically after a new clutch thats good value and not overkill. That will take the power i am makeing, and will be able to put it to the ground through semi-slick tyres + traction bars at a drag strip. Makeing 110WKW.
I want to be able to launch on high revs 5k with slick tyres... and shift at redline 7k. with no clutch slip etc..
What is a good value clutch that will do the job... but isnt overkill, overly expensive.
let me know some suggestions
So far i am tossing up between Competition Stage 2 and Exedy Stage 1.
Regards Lyle

Hey lyle
Go see doug at nicks clutches boundry coopers plains. Built all my previous clutches and the one i'm using now!! From as little as $350. They build clutches for everything and anything from dragster to trucks. He gets excedy stuff too!
I'm running a 4 puck brass button with a uprated excedy heavy duty cover plate and lightened itr fly wheel, its pretty aggressive though.

i think you need quad plate carbon clutch to handle the massive torque and power of the turbo D....

Agreed. Nicks Clutches builds some good clutches for high powered turbo vehicles and cheap too.

Excedy Sports organic will hold up fine (i've got this one). But then destructn killed his. I've seen quite a few turbo cars running this without issue.
Otherwise the carbon ceramic, is the next one up..
Brass-button if you wanna build a drag car, but its a pain to drive around town.
Its only 110kw atw, its not a superpower.

im putting an exedy cerametallic (ceramic/metal mix) 3 puck stage 2 clutch in my 108kw atw eg this week.
yours will ofcourse have more torque, therefore stress the clutch more,im guessing its going to be a bit overkill for mine but it could be just the thing for you, my toda 3 puck wore out, and i didnt wana downgrade because i love the launch it gives you,so im going the exedy stage 2
il let you know how it goes in driveability and when it gets a thrashing after ive run it in a few 100kms
for reference, cheapest i could get this clutch trade price anywhere in AUS was $510, but i found a better deal than that off a reputable trader on US ebay

Thanks for the reply guys.
Its just a clutch that will only really need to handle 110wkw and not really anything beyond. I think the stage 1 organic seems pretty good value.
Thanks guys for the nicks clutches refer.. i have herd of them a few times might go scope them on a day off.
Brendan, do you know the price difference aprox between the stage 1 / stage 2 exedy?
I actually think my clutch atm is a stage 1 but i installed that nearly 5 years ago and yeh.... :S slipping a fair bit now

HAHAHA .... No! Go home kido.
anyway, Lyle, is this for your daily or your built motor?
I'm runnin the competition clutch setup. 6 puk ceramic, double sprung, with lightened flywheel. Makes for a great difference and can handle deans ITR-T when a ORC couldn't.
Good value for money too!:thumbsup:

pretty sure there is only one type of sports organic exedy clutch.
I know some places call it a stage one but some others call it a stage 2

organic clutches never last for me. I always use a ceramic or brass buttone friction plate. The more pucks the less aggressive and so on....also depending on your center whether it sprung with double spring , elastomer or solid. Has to be combined with the right clamping force too. Chat to dougy from nicks best bet.

Exedy Sports Organic gets my vote.
Used one with 2400lbs clamp.
Put down 400Nm+ to the ground fine. Allows a bit of slipping for day to day driving and if you're not on semi/slicks.
Failing that, maybe try Jim Berry Clutches?

Ok guys got a few dellimas
Exedy Stage 1 (organic) = $343.00 USD delivered
Exedy Stage 2 (cerametalic)= $413.00 USD Delivered
Comp clutch Stage 2 = $385.00 USD delivered
Competition stage 2
This assembly provides approximately 80% increase in torque capacity and is properly suited for aggressive street use and moderate track use. The Carbon Kevlar material with its alloy backing matched to a performance pressure plate will provide smooth engagement and extended life. 500 mile break-in highly recommended with this set-up.
The 2100 Series kit includes a performance pressure plate, a high torque sprung disc with antiburst steel backed Carbon Kevlar facings, all applicable bearings, and the appropriate alignment tool.
And yes i am on semi-slicks

Lyle. I'd go for the Competition clutch stage 3. It will be comfortable like your stock clutch and take a heap more torque than stage 2.
Its always good to get an much overated clutch, especially if your not sacrificing comfort. It also will last you longer and won't burn out like a clutch that 'might be ok'.
Its a do it one and right 1st time situation. Nothing more anoying than replacing clutch after clutch.
