i know the basic paper specs on this car.
Just wondering if its comfortable, and if it has some sort of power behind it.
Also its a SOHC isnt it? cos ive seen some specification sheets that say its a DOHC and some that state a SOHC?.

Is it going to be much slower than the hatch VTi? i know it weighs roughly 40kg more, but will that be noticeable?

overall its my first care and was wondering if its a good buy?

cheers guys

yeah 1994 civic VTI is SOHC VTEC.... same motor as my 1996 VTI civic coupe D16Y8... well it is comfortable and it does have power if you have the correct mods, already a pod filter will let you hear your VTEC heaps loud, mean and clear... DOHC will be more powerful, but SOHC is still ok for me... go the Dseries.... yes as long you have VTEC then yes its good for your first car... do it up and then get engine conversion...

i used to own a Si, which is a D series non vtec, and have driven my friends VTi (sohc vtec) and i thought the Si was a more enjoyable drive, i felt more torque even though on paper they are supposed to be the same.

To answer your question, its comfortable...

in terms of power... you might be lusting a bit more then again maybe not ^_^ go for a test drive and see if it impresses you

wrong...the 1994 EG sedan (or EH as it is known here) has D16Y1 SOHC VTEC

D16Y8 only available on 96-98 civic coupe VTi (EJ8)

correct... EG VTi = d16y1
EJ8 = d16y8
In terms of difference in performance, im sure it will be very minimal if the engine is healthy, back when i still had my d16y1, it was just as quick as my mates hatch

ive driven a 93 VTi Sedan CVT (i was originally going to buy this one) , it doesnt feel to different from my GLi sedan, apart from maybe acell'ing a tiny lil bit quicker. As a first car i rekon its a good buy, how much are you looking to spend btw?

u sure that wasnt a VEi? this was available only in Sedan form and was basically made for economy... the motor says vtec on it too but i think it only puts out like 7X kw :S

it was a 93 CVT tran. VTi, it was white. It had no log books or manual with a dodgey ODO reading. i wouldn be surprised if the lacking performance i felt was due to its condition under the hood. The VTi and GLi sedans have the same rated kw anyway, just the GLi lacks the vtec kick

half right, vti does have vtec, which gli doesn't...i'm just quoting part of the sticky from [[d a n n y]] for kw rating:

];1295858']Civic GLi
Engine 1,493cc SOHC 16 valve, 4-cyl MPFI
Power / torque 74kW / 133Nm
Transmission 5-speed manual / 4-speed automatic (optional)

Civic VTi
Engine 1,590cc SOHC 16 valve, 4-cyl MPFI
Power / torque 96kW / 145Nm
Transmission 5-speed manual / 4-speed automatic (optional)

as a 1st car, i reckon its alright if its a sohc vtec, it isnt anything to gloat about but it is a zippy car around town......just dont drive a dohc vtec and then you wont know what your missing out on i guess :p

according to Honda http://www.honda.com.au/wps/wcm/connect/internet/Honda.com.au/Home/Owners/Previous+Models/Civic/1996+-+2000/

the EK range of sedans they both have 88kw, only diff is the VTEC and that 1 more nm on the VTi

EDIT: ahh i see i was on about EK's lol
