ok i got a RA1 odyssey. (1995)

recently put new sparkplugs in hence how i found the problem.

as with my 02 civic i used to have, the sparkplugs are accessed thru the top of the rocker cover and are about 3inches down in the hole.

i have noticed that the 1st spark plug (1st on left when facing engine bay) is full (part way) of oil. and there isnt much room either side of the socket i used to remove the plug. as if the rocker cover gasket is misaligned.

there seems to be a little bit more room in the 2nd, and a bit more again 3rd spark plug hole. and the 4th spark plug hole seems fine, adequate room around the socket as you would expect.

also the car is gutless

and when i pump the gas pedal, when the car is in park, netural, or drive (with brake on), alot (well a moderate amount neway) of smoke comes out the exhaust, so i'd also assume she'd be burning oil to.

Q. am i right to assume that the rocker cover gasket is misaligned causing oil to leak into/around the spark plug ?

Q. thinking of putting it into the mechanic asap, but if its just the rockercover gasket i should be able to do that myself hey?
Q. apart from a new gasket would i use some sort of gasket sealent (what type/brand) incase the head is warped a bit causing the gasket not to make a good seal?

Q. or do u think the oil rings on the pistons is shot to :-( ?

The valve cover gasket only seals the outer edge of the cover.
On B series there are round rubber seals on the valve cover around the sparkplug holes which if left out cause oil leakage into the plug holes. It could be that.

It's just a guess but worth checking. Why don't you remove the valve cover and take a look. :)

Also sounds like the piston rings are shot too

I'd say the same thing. I changed my rocker cover before and had this problem but my situation was i forgot to put those seals on. So they could be leaking.

the car is 13yo now so it's probably just that the cylinder tube seals have hardened up and are not sealing as well. replace it along with your rocker cover gasket if that hasnt been done in a while either.

whoever is servicing your car should really pick this up when they do the tappet adjustment

only just got the car a few months ago from a car yard, so now wonder hey lol.

will have to go to repco or honda and see about getting some seals in. :-)

will double check to se what series engine it is to.

engine is a F22B6

had a look down hole and can see either slightly melted & squished "O" ring or liquid gasket sealer, protruding into the hole. will definitly need to replace.

on a side note is there a DIY for tappet adjustment ? i have on order a cd service manual for the odyssey off from ebay. i got one from the same bloke a while bak for my old 02 civic and found it pretty good.
