View Full Version : Used Wrong Oil?

Around 950km ago my dad changed the oil in my car (Engine - H22A) to a 25W-50 oil.

I know this is the wrong type of oil but is it harmful to the engine itself? Should I change the oil now or wait till my normal 5000km oil change interval?

depends if you want to risk want your oil squirters to clog up, then lack of oil pressure causes the engine to go %^&^&*

all depends on the condition of your engine,

if she has lots of built up sludge, then you should consider changing the oil, also it depends the quality and type of oil used.

If it is a H22A, change it NOW!
Get a 0w-40, 5w-40 or 10w-40 oil. Even Mobil Synth S 10w-40 is cheap at $32 and better than the shit in your engine at the moment.

Relax - Its not going to harm your engine, its not like a 25w-50 oil has the consistency of chocolate pudding. Your car will run fine but maybe your butt dyno will find it a little sluggish but thats about it.

Change it if it makes you feel better, but thats about it,

It will be fine at operating temperature as 50 weight is not that thick. But during cold startup especially with the recent cold weather, there will be a little bit more wear as it will take a bit longer to circulate compared to the spec'd 10w or even 15w.

Cold start up - yes, it will be an issue if the temperature goes under -10 degrees... otherwise, nah...There won't be any issue at all...There's always a layer of oil left on the moving parts anyway from the day before...

I asked before on my previous post whether you knew if the oil that was put in there was synthetic, semi or mineral. This is because if it's synthetic, you might be best at this 1st oil change since, to use synthetic as well. And it won't matter if you use 5W-30 or 10W-40.

If the oil in there is semi, then at this 1st oil change since, I'd use semi as well. And it won't matter if you use 5W-30 or 10W-40. And so on.

At the 2nd oil change, I'd stick to a recommended grade of synthetic or semi for the H22A like you quoted above. No need to get expensive brands like Motul, Elf or Royal Purple though. Mobil, Nulon, Shell Helix are good oils at medium cost. If your car has high Kms and blowing a bit of smoke under load, I'd use 10W-40 (since 5W may be a bit thin). The smoke is more visible in your rear vision mirror at night with a car following you; and then you may or may not see some in front of his headlights.

Hope This Helps,
Terry

5w-30 is spec for a new H22A. Depends on the condition on your engine. I recommended Mobil Synth S because at $32-35, it is good for its price. Edge 5w-30 is $50 and is quite expensive for what it is. At normal price, I wouldn't buy Edge 5w-30 and would instead rather pay $65 for Motul 8100 5w-40 which is much better than the Edge when I put them through testing at the track.

My car has done 141k

Another question guys... Is it ok to top up with different varients of oil? Say I did an oil change with the Edge 5w-30 and then I after 2000km I needed a top up, is it ok to top up with a 10w-40?

That's fine. I've mixed synthetic, mineral and semi synthetic before in 1 oil change, just to see if there are problems. LOL

Castrol Edge Sport 5w-30 will do the job jus fine, no need for the expensive stuff . regular oil change does the trick every 5000km

I'd only buy Edge Sport 5w-30 during discount pricing at $30. Otherwise, he might as well get something cheaper than the regular $50 price, or something better at $65. Edge 5w-30 is not worth the $50 retail price.

yeh if its about $50 for the edge sport 5w-30 u might as well spend abit more to get something better. ddnt realise that. motul isnt far away from that price.
