Hey was leaving work today and one of my mates said my car was blowing a bit of fuel smoke. My car doesnt normally do this and i know that its usually comes down to a few things such as retardation from the ecu due to cold engine making the car run rich, spark plugs or the air filter being dirty aswell.
Running a d16y8 vti coupe that only had the plugs changed around 6 months ago so it shouldnt be that and the engine temp was warm before i drove off and air filter was clean. So im a bit perplexed as why it would blow fuel smoke. Has any one else had the same issue.
The cars about to go in for its 120thou service next week but has regulary been maintained. could it be a sensor interferring and if so which one would it be...
Running a ethanol blend fuel in the current tank and going to change to bp ultimate this week and put a injector clean through as well.
any other ideas would be appreciated as considering selling the car. Wnat to make sure its up to scratch when it goes

Did u give it a hit??
Probably nothing to worry about, i mean, if ur friend is calling it fuel smoke....
Ethanol gives ur car worse economy that 91. Just use that.

nah going to take it for a drive to clean it out tommorrow and check the plugs, still have 1/2 a tank of gas doesnt get driven that much so going to try and empty it to put a clean tank of gas in aswell..

most Honda has a rick tune up high to protect the motor... if youve got breathing mods the ecu is trying then to compensate for the increased air in the mixture... all in all i wouldnt worry about it much at all

You don't have to empty it. Just top up that 1/2 tank with good fuel.

is e10 fuel blend really that bad that it worse then 91ron petrol. i spoke to the honda dealer in town and they reckon its ok to run on. probably change back to ultimate anyways. Im no petro chemist but i would of thought because they are usaully around a 95/98ron blend that the fuel, not only in combustion and cleaning properties would have been better then a standered 91ron. In my owners manuel my car is ok to run on 91ron furl anyways. No biggie

is your car still blowing some black smoke when accelerating?
can you actaully see it in the rear view/driver mirror?
meh
my friend said i was blowing black smoke monday morning...i had only driven 5-10km on new sparks so maybe really old carbon/oil buildup was burning away??
my car has been driving fine tues and tonight...
can't see any black in the mirrors at all when taking off...
><
i still need to get a friend to drive my car so i can see for sure if my car is still smoking...
had some fun today...i'm trying whatever i can to burn off anything that is still left over in the exhaust..
stopped on the motorway 3 times...floored it all the way 1st,2nd and 3rd gear..felt good :D i think my car does 0-100kph in like 7.5-8 seconds...><

If you don't drive or rev it often you'll tend to get a build-up in the exhaust of black soot, when you rev it blows loose and out the back.

just a quick note, im presuming your car is at or over 10 years of age now? ethanol blended fuels are usually fine to run on newer cars as opposed to older ones. there have been cases of ethanol blended fuels deteriorating fuel lines and even damaging pistons - in particular, ethanol blended fuels deteriorate anything thats made of rubber
ethanol has interesting properties. once again, im presuming your car is at or over 10 years old. over that many years a whole lot of sludge forms in your fuel tank. ethanol is a very effective solvent and so it loosens all this sludge and in effect feeds it through your fuel lines. it usually gets trapped at your fuel filter or your injectors so you might want to look into changing your fuel filter. another thing is ethanol blended fuels absorb more water than non-blended, thus ethanol fuel 'holds' and 'carries' more water through your engine.

yeah she just turned 10 this year, only really started using e10 fuel a year ago but going to stop now... Changed the fuel fitler and put some injector cleaner through the car and its running alot better.. probs rite about the gunk in the fuel tank so im putting it down to that... running fine now. Back to using BP ultimate and is seems A LOT smother too aswell.

Not saying its bad (but it is) BUT, u get shitter economy with it, u use more fuel than the money u save from paying a few cents less. So its just not worth it

Bit of a update and a bump. But it seems to be happening again. now its leaving a black carbon deposit now on the rear bar. So im perplexed why it seems to be running rich. Air/oil/fuel filters all replaced and new spark plugs.. any new ideas. Lil help as stumped.
