Hey guys
Ive got an OEM ITR exhaust system.
Im interested in replacing the B-pipe (the pipe between the cat & muff) with a straight through pipe.
Reason: coz the larger resonator is scraping as the car is lowered..
Questions:
-has anyone done this before?
-im thinking about just doing this at any exhaust shop, can anyone recommend any? (+ rough cost???)
-is there much diff between stainless steel and mild steel?
-would there be any performance gains?
-would the exhaust be substantially louder?
Cheers guys!

My guess;
Gains would be minimal if any.
Exhaust would be slightly louder, not much though.
Geez the car must be low!

whoops.. should have clarified ..
doesnt scrape when driving... more so my driveway.. i want to clear it! + some speed bumps..
if u have a look the larger hotdog it does Protrude more hence more likely to scrape...

hey matt you might be able to fit a smaller offset muffler underneath if space allows - similar to a offset muffler. or perhaps get the exhaust shop to pull the mid hangers u to hold the resonator higher ?
IMO dont remove your resonator its asking for a headache

hey ben...
whats an offset muffler?
what in your opinion is wrong with making it a straight throught pipe instead of having the OEM resonators there?

this is an offset resonator/muffler

you need a resonator mid range , to remove alot of the "resonance" of the engine and exhaust system. For your daily car i think its a bad idea to remove it all together - try to adjust its height like i suggested first up.
Get in contact with "performance exhaust " - 9683 5688 - Ask for hakkan !

ah i c... fair enough..
so more so, you need the resonator to make it less "loud" or less droney sounding?

Because you have the oem muffler it wont be much louder at all, just a tiny bit raspier. It wont cost much if you get the exhaust shop to chop out the resonator and put a straight pipe in place. If you are near hornsby go see Dennis at Grim Performance 0407950180. The resonator does not make much difference to how loud your exhaust is, thats the mufflers job as it "muffles" the sound! Id take it out if it means ease of access into your drive way cos you wont get it mounted high enough to make much more clearance and there is not much room for an actual muffler! Or you can get air suspension like me!

thanks TBS33N...
ill give him a call.. have you got a straight through b pipe?
even having a look at the BC SpecIII b pipe it has "small" resonators.. but even then, that exhaust is damn loud...
yea not really looking for airbags atm hah..

Mate go to a proper exhaust shop, like westside mufflers (under the old JDM Yard), or Best Mufflers. I have seen the work of dodgy small mechanics/welders and they suck. Majority of the time, the exhaust is not installed properly, and the B-pipe hangs alot lower than it should. Try what Benjamin was talking about, with the mid hangers. This should help.
However, removing the mid resignator will not make your car too loud, as you are using the stock muff.
Alternatively, raise your car more... unless you like to pull chicks with the amount of rear negative camber you are getting. :P

Straight through b-pipe will make it sound more buzzy and raspy at high revs.
Try raising the pipe work or swapping the resonator for a really long hotdog if you have too.
