I started my car to let it warm up, and i found that my tank is filled up with coolant and it was bubbling up. The car was not overheated when its bubbling. I notice that the fan was not turning on for a while. I grabbed on the top radiator hose and it was hot as, but the bottom radiator hose was cool.

Anyone know might be the problem. I check the thermostat and it was rooted, so i took one from another motor and put it back on but same problem. Bottom hose remain cool

does it really matter
as long as its not leaking or overheating?
and thermostat is fixed
sounds all good to me.

yeh it does matter, because its overflowing the tank

you didnt top it up while the engine was still warm?

thermo should open in conjunction wih the thermo fan , takes a good 15-20 minutes to warm up when idleing tho. 1st get a brand new thermostat. install it.
try letting the car idle with the radiator cap off. Set the temp to HOT (side across)
let the car idle , as it warms up bubbles will make their way to the top and bubble away. When the car eventually warms up the thermo should open and gulp coolant thru and the level should drop down - top it up .

get a new thermostate, try it again. just drive ur car for a while, then check the hose

As Ben said, ignore the rest lol.

You need to take the cap off and run it, then when the top hose gets hot and the thermostat opens, it will gulp (as ben said) the coolant and the level will drop down an inch or so. Top it upto the full mark and screw the cap back on.

Make sure the coolant you have used was pre-mixed.

ok, i will try that out tomorrow, but i did something lyk that similar and the bottom radiator hose remains cool.

Just another question, does the water flow from the bottom radiator hose to the thermo or its the other way around?

so i should keep it bubbling until the thermo open, and wait for the fan to come on?
or does it bubble up when the thermo is open?

im shitting myself it might be the head gasket

if its your head gasket, you will have other tell tale signs, like oily coolant

and your engine running like a dirty ****

Not always. You can blow a head gasket from cylinder to water jacket and you don't get oily coolant. If this senario happens your overflow tank will bubble like you have said, as air from a cylinder is being pushed into the coolant system.

Do what has been mentioned in the above post 1st and see if the problem is still occuring.

yeh tired what ben said to do,overflowing from radiator and the bottom hose remain still cool, didnt want to leave it any longer cos the bottom hose is not getting hot so the fan wont turn on.
How do i check if the head gasket is gone?

CO test on coolent, if the gasket is gone, there should be carbon monoxide in the coolent coming from the leak

If it is continuously blowing air our your over overflow. I think its your head gasket. Take it to a mechanic and get it compression tested.

But that does not explain your water not circulating. Either its not getting hot enough for the thermostat to open or you have a blockage somewhere weather it be the thermostat or something else. You could always try and remove the thermostat and then the water should circulate right from startup.

yeh that what i thought, if it was head gasket then it should bubbling straight away.
Maybe thermo playing up again, ill take the thermo out and see if the water is circulating.

oh yeh, 4 got to mention, heater doesnt even work, comming out cool air even though the engine has warmed up halfway.

which means u have a blockage, the coolent can not go past where the heater is, hence no hot coolent going past, so the heater fan keep blowing a hose, hence not hot

also dont take your cap off whilst youre waiting for the thermo to kick over, just turn it to it licks once not twice to avoid a mess, then when it turns on add more fluid to ur rad if need be
