hey guys,
just after some opinions as im relatively new to the honda scene
im looking at starting to mod the teg.. its still mechanically stock, and im not too sure where to start..
with my old ride, the mx6 turbo, the general concensus was to start with an ecu.. would that be a good idea with the integra?
id be looking at maybe an eManage, or perhaps a hondata (no idea how much they are worth..)... would there be much of a gain with an initial tune, keeping in mind that i have no other mods what so ever?
eventually id be looking at going down the turbo route, but that wont be for a while..

go for it.
I personly would use the Honda ecu with an add-on like Hondata or ProECU, your teg should have a P72 which works with both systems. I think with your stock air box you can modify it and get a good tune and get some extra ponnies. also of you do any hardware mods both systems will be able look after you. with aftermarket ecus you dont have a good starting tune like your factory ecu.. also do a search there is a topic someware with lots of opinions I think the topic was which ecu or somthing.
hmmm..... from what i understand, wouldnt it be better to get some bolt on 1st, so you dont waste money and time tuning it before and after the bolt on ? i think with honda, its so well out of the box, that the initial tune wont be that great of a gain. can i ask do you track your car often or just a street driven car mostly ?
btw, whos doing your tuning ? i am looking for a tuner for my car right now...

I would suggest you do the bolt-on upgrade like I/H/E before touching the ECU.

well right now my feeling would be to go for hondata and get it done by blkcrx..
has anybody ever had experience with tuning a STOCK b-series with hondata?.. id be interested to see what the gains were.. i understand that the factory tune is meant to be decent already, but i suspect its a little far from perfect.
right now im serving a license suspension (and still driving) so i do not want a loud exhaust to attract attention..
vtml - do you have to reply to everybody thread by saying "do a search"?.. i DID do a search but i wanted to have a discussion about it.. geebus christ the forum is here for a reason.

So your driving around unlicenced?

Xscape, you will get more from intake headers and exhaust before a new ecu.
hondas run relatively rich from the factory, and u can make up for that with those breather mods. ecu helps but it id rather do the other mods first.

Actually Andy, by making a engine breath more efficiently makes it run even richer.. ;) Why do you think everyone gets carbon deposits at the back of there car after doing exhaust / intake, even more so if you do headers which reduces the back pressure even more.

I am somewhat in agreance with James. Stock ECU's are tuned for a target a/f of 14.7-1 or thereabouts wih both short & long term trims to to attain this ratio.
Ultimately you obtain better engine characteristics( ie power & driveability) from attaining a 12.5 A/F or there abouts.
Problem here is that with mods mentioned above to increase air flow, unless the ecu is running in open loop, you will not realise much difference, if any, due to the ecu learning or adapting for the increased air induction. ECU will richen up the car further, probably only resulting in increased fuel consumption with no extra power.
This can be avoided by running the car in open loop, you will need a chip of somekind to take advantage of your mods.

mod from out to in.. start with I/H/E, than your cams, cam gears, ecu, fuel pumps etc..
but loads of other stuff like suspension and stuff to improve 2

but for the money, the ecu wouldnt be your first modification would it?
i think that a relatively stock tune might not be the greatest, but if u were to change that tuning, ur only taking it closer to the limits to gain power.
Guess its what your after most?
