might need a new cluster

anyone know what might have been the source of the issue? i noticed it happened after doing a 0-100km/h run.. but that shouldn't have anything to do with it? cluster internals havent been tampered with either.

its likely a ground issue (loose or worn ground on the gearbox or head for example) or its a failing or faulty VSS - located on the gearbox.

yea could be a number of things, cluster, grounds or cables. I had a similar prob with one of my old cars it was the speedo cabl, jus got a new cable but the speedo cable can also be greased as it can become stiff over time and stick which would have symptoms like not moving from a speed then jumping up like instant 0 -60. Check to see if the odometer sticks too, if the k's don tick over cleanly then that would prob point to speedo cable.

heat might contribute....wiring from the VSS to the ecu to the dash might be badly soldered or not at all , when it heats up it might break the contact and the voltages might jumpp all over the place.

regardless you should get it looked at as it will happen again

I had this before, go to the gearbox where the speedo sensors is and you will find a corroded pin in the connector,,the sensor is under neath the throttle body on the gearbox

If you never taken the speedo out, should be wiring problems.

Does your odometer also like scroll past really fast when the tacho is going nuts?

Yeah could be a ground issue, but interestingly enough this was happening on my friend's 96 civic with b16b along with engine hunting and lights dimming and the battery dying. I figured there must have been a short somewhere. After scratching our heads for a bit i just decided to check the under dash fuse box. I found a dead fuse and changed it and everything went back to normal. Unfortunately i can't remember which fuse...sorry but there's only like 20 of them down there.

I had the same problem the other day. It fixed itself, Only on some occasions it might jump up n down or might just sit at 0
