Hi guys,

Before I start I want to say I have been searching the forum for a week and a half now, but I couldn't find the answer I seek buried within 106 pages!

I want to buy either an Injen or K&N CAI/SR kit, could anyone direct me to a seller? As I haven't been a member for 90 days I can't access specific parts of the forum...

What price should I expect to pay for either kit, $250 - $280? Does the K&N kit still come in the awesome red? (I think I read somewhere they discontinued this and it only comes in brushed aluminium?)

Also just out of interest, if I were to increase the wheel size and the tyre size (so that the overal O/D did not match the original tyre), what would happen with VSA?

Btw, i'm from Perth and would sure like to come along to the next Perth meet (if such a meet exists).

Cheers!
Kyle

Can i suggest the Icebox from Comptech.gives more gain in low to mid RPM and is quieter and cheaper.

Thanks for the speedy reply.

I hope to retain the quiteness of the car for normal driving (up to around 3k rpm), I thought the Injen and K&N sounded like stock up until these revs? I would actually like the low throaty sound above these revs for when i'm feeling like giving it some juice!

As for the low end torque loss, the K&N is better than the injen in this regard yes?

So the comptech is better at low/mid than the others? How much quiter than the others is it? I have read that people are generally very happy with the Injen CAI's...

Very True Rocket Industries like to get all the V8 gear in instead.

Doubt very much there will be one on the self in OZ.

DIY intake or INJEN imo.

if you want to retain quietness like stock then Icebox is def.the way to go.It does emit a low slightly throaty sound from 5K upwards, low end torque loss is about the same for both CAIs i think.Icebox cost $260.00 landed then K&N panel filter i got 2nd.hand for $50.00,good value. Both CAIs cost approx.$400.00.

mate, if your looking at sourcing either one AUS sellers are looking around $450 mark.

if you source from a company in the US you may be able to get one for cheaper.
maybe try www.tsxparts.com or heeltoeauto or some others.

Otherwise if your desperate the traders on here, jdmyard/musecret performance/ jdmconcept

in relation if you want your car to be quiet, go comptech icebox,

CAI compared to SRI is still pretty quiet in my opinion but you lose out in low end throttle response. SRI on the otherhand if you have it without cold air feed you will face horrible heatsoak due to hi engine temps.

My mate said the CAI sounds similiar to a turbo except it's not, that's before i reverted back to SRI.

if you have a budget of $450, you can consider HKS too..
HKS would probably set you back about $300-$400 depends where you buy it.

Here is what it looks like:

http://img108.exs.cx/img108/1927/dsc000110xk.jpg
http://www.tougetune.com/pg/cl9_HKS_mega_intake.php?photo=1

You still get heatsoak from engine, but hey.. its HKS
and their design seems to me they try to make the intake as far away from the engine to prevent sucking engine heat...
you get a little "rain shield" as well!

youll find the injen one will change your torque curve and the setup goes almost behind ur front bar (on the eg), k&n dyno proven for an all motor/street application yes it works better at mid/high revs and it does sound mad !!! irregardless itll do what you want it too yea HKS name brand and unless ur running hektik setup no point...

Cheers for the replies lads, been very helpfull :)

zaqmlp, whats the diameter of that pipe? It looks huge! Do u lose a heap of throttle response low end?

Yeah, i'm leaning towards the Injen over the icebox because I do want that nice sound that the Injen makes at about 3k rpm

thanks for those links crapdaz, i'm guessing the acura tsx injen intakes fit our euros? i'm looking at part #SP1431P, both the CA and SR intakes. Is that the one? Has anyone had any bad experiences importing from tsxparts?

Do you guys think it's worth it to get the hydroshield?

Also, how often do you guys clean out your pod filters if they sit near the fog lights?? I'd imagine monthly at least??! Is it a PITA to get to the filter after it's installed?

Thanks again for all of the help!

I'm loving my euro and lovin this forum!

I don't have a clue what the diameter is, but i know that one side of the pipe (the side the attaches the filter) is bigger. So the pipe itself is bigger at one side and smaller on the other. But when you rev it, you can hear the slamming HKS intake sound :p

TSXparts is reliable, i've dealt with Norm a couple of times and a few guys on here would vouch for him too just as long as the price is right with you.

hydroshield not really useful, it only repels droplets if you get massive water drainage it's not water resistant.

But i use it anyhow.

search field should be TSX/CL9/CL7 <--- if you find these most likely it'll fit.

Nice, i've been looking on ebay and found a K&N for $375 delivered (in red!). The injen I can get for $315.

Which one sounds better? Looking at their charts there isn't really much separating them, they both lose around 5hp between 2k-3krpm, whereas the injen seems to have a bit higher gains. So really it's just down to what sounds better now...thoughts anyone?

as long as all four wheels match, the car wont tell the difference :)

oh and CL7 intake will NOT fit the CL9 euro... their throttle body is in a different position :(

not to mention the fact i couldnt find any aftermarket intakes for the CL7 besides the $2000 groupeM one lol

I remember getting a quote for K&N CAI from domestic K&N distributor,
they wanted over $500. Twice the price of ordering one yourself from the states.

I went from Fujita ( very similar to injen ) to comptech due to loud elephant under the bonnet. I do like the comptech a lot. Nice sound, same performance, elephant evicted.

what is better short rams or full induction kit?

short rams seem to get slightly higher gains on dynos... however, alot of people believe in normal driving (bonnet shut) you get alot of heat soak because its sucking in the hot engine bay air...

cold air intakes are good because they suck cold air from up front away from the engine, however, if you went thru a damn big puddle (huge!) you risk getting hydro-lock (water in your engine)...
