i highly recommend u NOT do that not only for ur car but also ur safety. Remember when the engines going it means all acc. are running and batt is also charging. If u accidentally cause a spark when all thats going...

Google search says
Do NOT ever disconnect a battery cable from
car with the engine running because the battery acts like a filter for the
electrical system. Unfiltered electricity can damage the electrical
components, for example, computer, radio, etc. Check the electrolyte level
before recharging.

In the old days it wasn't all that dangerous to do (not a great idea for any extended period), but modern cars have ultra sensitive electronics that are dead easy to fry...

u can do it on older cars but i wouldnt suggest doing it to any car 1995+
iv done it before in my older cars (91' MX6, 85' Sigma, 95' R33, 91' Patrol) to charge up a flat battery.... works fine and didnt fukup the car

try it and tell us the results, only one way to really find out!
Hmm I believe you shouldn't try it.. could be very costly! And I agree with what the other guys said and this site says it too:

you can do it, I've done it, a previous post said, in earlier cars, its not so bad, but these days, the cars have many electronics.
once my car battery was dead. I hooked up a good battery and started the car, I then proceeded to put the old battery back into the car, disconnecting the good battery to hook up the old one. I then went for a drive to charge the old battery.
IMHO it is ok to do so, many ppl might disagree with me and my methods, but i know what i'm doing :)
just makes me laugh sometimes when reading on these forums, some ppl are just too much "by the book" sort of ppl
I'm a dodgy fuker but I've never gotten myself into trouble:)

flat batt... use another battery to start the car... then swap them over to charge the flat one

it shouldn't do anything as your car is running by the alternator, the battery is mainly for cranking to start.
BUT why would you want to do such a thing?
