Hey thanks for this pics... source?

Don't mind the grill but those foglights look a bit hmmmm.... look more like an add-on set from Supercheap.

Wondering if they gonna put an electric drivers seat in at least the sport.

Am I blind or does the rear look the same to me?

On a sidenote, I didn't know the Hybrid had an antenna... I thought all Civics had in-glass antennas.

all civic hybrids in the 8th gen have antennas, lol i cant see any difference as well, this is definately the hybrid model, maybe a side by side picture to show a comparison?

dmx
24-08-2008, 04:39 PM
yes, sample pic is for hybrid (check the wheels- antenna - duct tail spoiler)
The face lift :
1. Front bumper - from smiling face to sad face (see lower front grille shape and fog shape), type-r shape tho
2. Front grille - mesh added (another type-r copycat) and chrome grille slightly bigger and square shape
3. Rear light - from round shape inside to square shape, looks like lexus GS rear light

and the rest would be the same.
hmm.. front headlight seems different too (???)

considering the more upmarket Inspire doesn't even have Projectors yet, I didn't expect that from the Civic. But I think for the aus model, HID might come as OEM for the Civic Sport since its already available in the overseas market

Exactly my point, facelift is meant for improvements to the car either making changes to the body to make it more aesthetically pleasing or by including features that add value to the car.

pretty dissapointing if that's all they're gonna do:

- a fat H(onda) front grille with black mesh, which doesn't even look good
- some black colouring to the headlight housing
- a dodgy lookalike type r front bumper
- slap on black cheap fog lights

Looks like this design was from a kindergarten colouring homework exercise...

lmao that reminded me of maddox if anyone knows who he is

im disapointed tho, if u werent a honda fan u probably wouldnt tell the difference just by lookin casually at them, a facelift should make everyone want to throw out the old one cuz the new one shits all over it lol. honda design teams are really shitting me off these days, seems like they are disconnected from wat people want.

:) pardon my ignorance....but whats the big deal on having/missing out on projector lights anyway? sure they look good but dont think it'll improve the light performance (ie beam throw etc). as for the HID system, yes the overseas civic sport equivalent has HID but without pop-out washers...and we need them for ADR compliance.

The new chrome grill looks crap. It makes the vehicle less sporty - it makes it look more like a family sedan.

BTW, the reversing camera, SatNAV units and even a front parking sensor and camera have been available to Japanese buyers since the car was introduced. Honda Australia just doesn't bring them in.

All this talk that we have a small population to justify the high cost of importation is just baloney. NZ has a smaller population than ours yet Honda NZ is able to offer the SatNav unit and front parking sensor, and provide HIDs as standard on their version of the Civic Sport.

It will be interesting if the current front lip kits (Modulo and Mugen) available now would still fit and what pain it would be to fit aftermarket spoiler like Mugen or Tyre R with the sport version as it now comes fitted with a deck lid spoiler.

our civic is built in Thailand. so what's available in Japan might be irrelevant to us.

maybe the Thai cars have them, i'm not sure tho.

SPEEDCORE
05-09-2008, 11:06 AM
Its got nothing to do if ours is built in Thailand or not.... its if Honda Australia WANTS to justify it for our spec cars in the current state of our local market in this segment of car.

DMX: Saying that Honda would not bring it out for the civic because Euro and Accord drivers would be pissed off is not a reason. I'm sure Accord and Euro drivers did not buy them over the civic because of sat nav & reverse cam options.

Philip Lee
05-09-2008, 12:00 PM
yes it does matter.

a lot of these features are integrated these days and if the plant doesn't build any cars with these featuers then it is harder for Honda Australia to request them. afterall we have a small market here.

for example Fit in Japan still runs the CVT but we're only getting 5sp auto because Thailand made cars don't have CVT.

btw where does NZ source their Civic? Japan or Thailand?

I acknowledge that the market is small.... however NZ still is able to get Japanese built FDs. Funny how things work....

Intergrated it is ... adjusting the production line to suit would not be difficult or time consuming IMO, considering that it is basically just dash components. Additionally given that they are built in batches for respective countries (so I have been told)... I don't see it being a major headache in having three lines of compontents for the stage of dash assembly, as they already have two different ones for FD1 and FD2.

Anyway.... facelift should be interesting, I don't mind the taillights.... but those fog lights look awkward.

no other parts needed, all include in 1 complete kit set. to be honest, this is the MOST useful non-aesthetic mods i ever done. imagine, every night i have to open my boot to put/take something, and don't have to find that d*** keyhole in the dark. and with my both hand carry stuff from wollies, just push twice unlock button, and la..la..la.. love it.

I was just browsing the Honda Japan website and I noticed that the new JDM Civic has a new key, the Honda Smart Key. Looks like there's a boot release button, and the key slides out.

Apparently, the door handles have sensors so you don't have to get your key out to open your door (good for rainy days).

Also, there seems to be a new ignition switch or something. So again, you don't need to insert the key you just have to be in the driver's seat.

no. not quite, the facelift is supposed to be a refresher to boost sales. if what you were speaking of was the case, then the resale value of your civic would be worse than a Magna as everyone would be throwing out their ones for the new one. this is one of the factors in which why honda resales are so good.

Hey guys sorry to bring up an old thread, but when is the facelifted civic expected to be on sale or delivered in oz? My mate is planning to order one soon to take advantage of some year end deals, but would it be worthwhile to wait if the facelift is just around the corner?

Dealer informed him that the facelift wont be out till feb 09, but he might just be telling fibs to make a quick sale.

Went I went to order a night hawk black civic about a month ago... he couldnt find one that wasnt sold, but told me the new crystal black civics are due to start arriving in 3 months.. so Jan/Feb 09 would be about right.

Yeah I'm not a big fan of the face lift... HOWEVER, the one thing that might get me jealous would be the new black paint, depending if I can even tell the difference when it comes out...

No, under door.
if you see the bottom of the door, there's small hole. on type-r there's a light.

That hole that you mention..... is there a plug already sitting inside to plug up to the light? Or will these have to be wired?

wouldn't that be because the Thai factory hasn't started producing the facelifted Civic's yet? I believe Japan has started selling the facelifted civic.

*too lazy to read whole thread*

I've seen a lot of the updated facelifted models of Civic (type r and normal) around Singapore and Malaysia. I'm not a huge fan of the hexagon/squarish tail lights and much prefer the round ones. What does intrigue me over here is how many different aftermarket tail lights there are for the FD1- some are totally smoked, some have the unused red bits around the circles clear, some smoked, some have the whole red area smoked, and some have the entire module clear (like the turn signals).

Back to face lift, the front looks not that different. It's the tail which attracts attention.

Hey DMX are you sure about the key hole light upgrade on the new facelift? I don't seem to have one in mine? :S...

Ohh ok ok that explains is the...seems to me like the only differences between the facelift FD Civic from Thailand is the external cosmetic differences, the new trim inside, the remote boot release, VSA as standard in VTI and VTIL models.
