View Full Version : 5th gen VTiR Prelude vs. DC2 Integra

Chronos

Guys, i seek your wisdome regarding these two cars. Comfort, performance, mods, etc.

On paper, i know the prelude is faster. What about in real life? On a track, In a straight line, how do they match up?

I know similar questions have been asked in the past, but i am more interested in prelude vs integra specific facts.

Thanks everyone,
Dim :)

well, like on paper stock vs stock prelude out-match integra in comfort because that what they were designed for. Performance wise it will outrun the integra, but i dont think it will much anywayz...
On a straight, because integra lighter it might get ahead but the lude catch up easy.
I havent seen integra on track yet, but i seen the lude atts on the track n they are awsome on corners.
They are both gd cars, no bias feeling toward both. :)

If its JDM i say dc2 but im being bias.

Ive sat in both cars and both are very sweet cars.
I think the ITR is a more balanced car and would be slightly better for track...
But the gen5 are a hot daily car and a cruiser, and the power is there if needed... its hard to split the 2

my experience tells me that the dc2 vti-r is marginally quicker than a 5th gen in a straight line... i don't know how they'd fare on the track, but i vaguely remember a wheels test where a 4th gen prelude did eastern creek in 1:59, a stock dc2 vti-r integra vti-r can do it in 2:02- the thing is that the prelude had mark skaife or kevin bartlett at the wheel, and i was driving my dc2 ;)
i wouldn't say i was even remotely in the same ballpark as those drivers, so i guess it would be safe to assume that the two cars are pretty evenly matched on the track.

The stock ITR is faster than lude vtir

There is heaps of mods for both, I would be alot more happy with the teg, but more comfortable in the lude. I had a 2000 ITR, pretty even mach in straight line with lude vtir, until hit 3rd. ITR pulls away.

McChook

ITR wins on weight and gear ratio - Lude wins on comfort while keeping close and torque.....

And from experience, prelude chops teg VTiR in straight line - my first ever drag was a Teg VTiR - close, but still won

They have a low load up point - can;t do 5000rpm launches like ya can in the manual - and believe me, 5000rpm launches in the prelude woop ass.

They also change slower and have longer ratios

so what would be the diff 0-100

i know da manuals do around 7.9sec

And I don't know if 5th gens do 7.9

I say take them to the drags and do a 1/4 test

The Vtir Prelude would beat all the Integras in a straight line except the Type R. Vtir Prelude vs Type R and the lude would get the jump on the line to due to more torque, but after 2nd the Type R would walk all over it.

Also the Type R would beat the lude quite easily at the track.

More info at http://www.ntpog.org/articles/magazines/battle.pdf

Also I have a pretty much stock Vtir Prelude, so in the name of science PM and maybe we can organise a run. I'm in Melbourne

yep, i went to a dyno day that had a stock auto 5th gen vti-r, he pulled 81 at the wheels, my car pulled 89- not forgetting the extra mass either.

Sounds about right.....90kw atw here with i/h/e and vafc tuned on an auto 5th gen lude :)

Your losing 10kw no questions asked being Auto compared to if I was manual....kinda annoying...but oh well :)

McChook
03-10-2004, 02:43 PM
Mine made 93.6 on the dyno stock, but the aftermath was that the dyno was out on the day - 4th gen made 98kw, so I expect the 5th gen would be around the same as I believe the 4th gear ratios are almost exactly the same

Stock Preludes Vs Integras huh?
Can shithouse GSi's take part too? Or have I been banned after last summer? :)
Interesting that a stock Prelude VTiR is so much faster than all Integras bar an ITR.
I distinctly remember chewing the absolute **** out of a stock 5th Gen Lude time and time again. I was extremely surprised.
Must definitely be the drivers. Or perhaps gradient of the slope....or perhaps bad timing...or perhaps shitty tyres...anybody for a cold/overheated clutch?

All talk and no play....

My stock vtir teg went up against a 5th gen vtir lude with air filter donno if he had exhaust. I got a better launch then him and was half a car infront of him and that's were it stayed till 100.

I dunno about you bois, but IMO traffic light drags, on-street drags do no count and cannot and will not justify which car is the better.

If you want to find out, do it on a blackstrip, in an enclosed and controlled environment, and on balck-and-white.

As for the topic, with stock forms of both models, find out the power-to-weight ratio, and that should derive a better theoretical answer.

If you want practical comparisons, google it, or email BMI to do a comparison ;)

Considering I'd only owned the car for a month (hadn't really worked it out) and the clutch was cooked... standard 110,000km original suspension (front end was in the air) and the tyres were badler than an eagle with bad camber
Oh, and as always Jon, welcome to take me on anytime.

Against Totti in his old VTiR, I was a good 1/2 length on him til 120ish... and that wasn't a stock VTiR teg

My non-VTEC GSi was, and basically still is, tock. At that stage I was into a 3rd week of waiting for my new clutch to arrive at Advan, so I was running on a non existant clutch. Yes, my car is lowered.

What's the use of waiting for your clutch and LSD? I thought the topic of discussion was "stock" Prelude VTiR Vs. stock Integra VTiR.
I merely mentioned I found it odd a Prelude VTiR kept losing to my GSi.
Complaints of clutch/gradient/stock condition are really irrelevant.
I also find it hard to believe Totti's ex red VTiR was that slow. :)

Clutch will be stock replacement (as far as I know, up to Robbie really), LSD shouldn't effect straight line racing. The clutch pick up point is so far up, it is extremely hard to drive.
On my standard boat suspension (which was dead), the ass squated so much, the front wheels never got any grip - and I was trying too hard and continually ****ed up - yes, driver made more difference than anything, as is so often the case.

You saw how many times I ****ed up gear changes - I was pathetic

Not really

I've only lost to one B18C1 - and that was Steve (Totti)...
I've had a lot of runs with VTiR tegs lately, seems thre are quite a few around the eastern suburbs for me to run on the way home from work - 2 blue ones (one with nice BBS wheels), a white one (with those late GSi 6/5 spoke wheels) and a black one.... All driven by older guys, and I haven't lost to any of them yet

BTW, does anyone know someone who owns a VTiR Integra, burgundy colour, with mugen badges??? Saw this guy coming home from the city last Saturday night around 11pm, Princes Hwy, Tempe - He was HELLA cut.....

HmMm......both cars are nice....but i think you should be more specific........you made it clear what lude you want to get but a dc2 integra? what do you want? GSi? VTiR? TypeR?

personally....i like the look of the dc2s......always have and always will......secondly, i wouldnt compare the 5thgen lude but 4th gen lude. hehehe they not only look better but are a lil faster from memory.

i reckon you can only compare VTiR vs VTiR.......both manual ofcourse......

Although iv heard wierd sh!t happeing from joneblaze's GSi.....we should be talking bout the majority of GSi's not one particular 1 right? Coz if this guy buys a GSi, will it be as fast or faster than yours joneblaze? Highly unlikely.

Any potential DC series buyers (who want a fast/enjoyable ride) looking a non-ITR's should always save up the extra few thou and purchase the VTiR model. Unless you want B18Boost of course! ;)

The Lude will always beat a ITR up to 100 but after 140 or so the ITR will be infront.

I think u got ur info from an unreliable source dude...ITR 0-100 time is less than Lude Vtir's. So yea...

Ok there is a drag night comming up on the 4th of March in Melbourne, so this can be settled there. It would be good if all types came along R's VTiR's. Register your interest here.

Wouldnt it be a much more closer battle between the 4th Gen VTiR's then the 5th Gen VTiR versing a DC2 VTiR?? ... since the 4th Gen's are more lighter and has closer gear ratio's then the 5th Gen.. so the 4th Gen has a better 0 - 100 time.. and that both cars are around the same age. 5th Gens are sexy cars that are more luxury cruiser then a sprint star.. but they aint exactly slow either.. but i reckon the 4th Gen would beat a DC2 VTiR in a race.. and the 5th Gen VS DC2 VTiR would be a close match.
