that weird chirping noise?

There is a rhythm sound like a music beat, then there is a higher pitched sound, and finally, your engine has a diesel-like sound which could be the tappets needing adjustment.

there is a special procedure for setting the tention on the timing belt to get rid of that noise.

If there is a tensioner pully thats old - that might be it

That sounds like it John since the noise started after the belts were taken off and on.
You wouldn't happen to have a DIY vid on this would you?

there is a special procedure for setting the tention on the timing belt to get rid of that noise.

The 'special' procedure was it made for eliminating the belt noise, or for correctly fitting / tensioning the timing belt? If you have a link, wouldnt mind having a look

I remember this from my Honday days, I cant remember exactly how it went but it was something like

- warm the car up ( fans come on at least twice ) then turn engine off
- remove rocer cover, and timing belt covers
- monitor the engine temp via ECT so KOEO
- rotate the crank counter counter clockwise 4 times and set to TDC CYL1
- when ect temp reached soemthing like 82deg C then you back off the tentioner and then tighten the tentioner bolt
- rotate the crank counter counter clockwise 4 times and set to TDC CYL1
- when ect temp reached soemthing like 50deg C then you back off the tentioner and then tighten the tentioner bolt

then put the timing belt covers back on and your right to go

Ill have a look to see if I still have the tech documentation on this somewhere.

I dont remember the temps exactly

Thanks heaps John,got it!

So what is it that is making the noise?

ECU-MAN

the tentioner

the tentioner

Sounds like its from that area.

Thanks John!

There's no way a mechanic would know how to get rid of this noise.
Thanks so much for your expert advice mate

Brett.

only honda dealerships had access to the tech bulliten issued by honda to resolve the issue.

not all EK / EM did it, but from time to time some popped up

I see.

That might explain my noise i had for a short period after doing timing belt, water pump and tensioner.

It's gone now though :S

I was hoping mine would dissapear too but it's 4-5 months now.

Here's the procedure John said earlier:

this is Honda's solution

1. Connect the PGM tester to the vehicle

2. Start the Engine and allow it to reach operating temperature ( Radiator Fans should come on twice )

3. Remove the upper timing belt cover

4. monitor the engine temperature. When the temp decreases to 58degC, rotate the crankshaft five or six turns counter clockwise.

5. Set No. 1 piston at TDC

6.When the engine temp decreaces to 55degC, loosen the timming belt adjusting bolt 180deg. Allow the tention of the timing belt to automaticlly reset the tentioner position.

7. Tighten the adjusting bolt.

8. After adjustment, retorque the crankshaft pulley bolt to 181 Nm

9. On compleating the procedure, start then engine and allow it to reach operating temperature. Confirm the noise has been eliminated. Should the noise still be exhibited the above procedure in its entirety is required to be repeated.

I will assume you wont have access to the PGM tester or a HDS, so you can monitor the ECT voltage to determine the engine Temp

the below is from temp v voltage when looking at the HDS.

ECT voltage at 58 deg 1.44v

ECT Voltage at 55 deg 1.55v

ECT is Engine Coolant Temp

and HDS is Honda Diagnostic System

OR just replace it!

did you ever try this ???

I bought a multi meter that measures tempreture from Jaycar for $30.Was all set to do it and figured out,I may aswell change the 14 year old one in there when the cam goes in,so bought one from honda for $130,after all that LOL

Honda said it could be shot and need replacing anyways.

beeza, any update on the nosie?

beeza

I still got it! LOL

But that pulley is going in with the cam and timing belt + seals in a couple of weeks.

Fingers crossed that's what it is :)
