As the title suggest, which is the best 98ron fuel in the market for Euro?
Also, Honda told me that the best engine oil for Euro is semi syn...therefore, they suggest to go with their own engine oil.. I was thinking to use Mobil1 fully syn, but they strongly disagree. Any comment??
Thanks!!

fuel wise - mobil synergy 8000 gets the most mileage, and performance is pretty good.

engine oil - motul 4100 turbolight (semi synthetic) 5w40
will change it soon.

I use Vortex 98.Have heard that Mobil 8000 is the best, have tried it and couldn't feel any diff.I've been told by a number of people to stay away from Shell fuel. For oil i use Elf Excellium SM 5W30(full synthetic),$60.

Shell - i get 350-400 per tank.
Vortex 98 - only get about 450-500.
BP - 600 (was better before)
Mobil 8000 - 650-700 (now mobil has better fuel consumption)

These figures were just what i noticed on my car, and from my experience.
BUT can't compare since we've got slightly different cars as yours is a CU2.

There was a thread with the same topic on CL9 before. Search for lots of info there.

Honda's oil is fully mineral. Not semi-synthetic. haha....
If you want to use Mobil1, make sure you use the 5w-30 or 10w-30. NOT the 5w-50. Make sure you have 10000km on your car before you switch to full synthetic, just to make sure that the engine is pretty run in.

Very impressive if you can get almost a 100% improvement in fuel comsumption by using Mobil over Shell!!

plus shell was before when i was still stock years ago, mobil is now after mods too, find that i drain more fuel but is bound to happen due to performance mods.

I get better fuel consumption now that I have the Jtune reflash and I have to use 98 ron. I get about 550- km in town driven hard and up to 800km on the highway. I get about 1-2% variation in the brands of 98 so i dont give a rates arse what 98 i use though i do prefer the BP stuff and its seems smoother. Not sure where you guys are getting 50% difference between brands as that actually defies the law of thermodynamics.

My consumption has improved measurably after the reflash and now dedicated 98 ron usage. That being said you get approx 2-3% imrpoved milage from 98 ron anyway (over 95) and top that with a flash to suit the octane increase with a mild lean offand I've probably got a 6-7% increase in range/efficiency. Thats nice esp with more PowA to boot.

Note: Forgot to add the lowering of the car will have contributed to an efficiency improvment. I dont know how much though. This is what they are looking at with the VE larodore.

Well, having gone through an amazing 2 tanks already...based on this car and others...

I actually got 600km around town on my first tank with Shell 95....

Now I am running BP Ultimate as that is what I use on all my other cars and it runs smoother I think and just got just over 700km city and highway combined...with an engine that is only "just" run in...lol

could it be due to the rate it burns.

if your a tightass but then again, can't have discount when your using mobil and bp (citizen CC).

For Shell/Caltex users is better to use discount vouchers.
Lol every so often i get shell vouchers from flybuys having stacking discounts ontop of the 4c (last one i got was additional 10c off / litre, which i gave to my sister)

i've checked it before but not worth it.
I atm have a linked AMEX card to parents account and whenever i use it i pay him back cause he can at least accumulate points for bonus offers.
So hopefully get a trip to the US or HK or something and buy some parts.

Based on actual engine dismantling and tests... Here are my results.

Caltex Vortex - More power but higher consumption
BP Ultimate - Slightly better consumption, less power than Vortex and V Power, cleaner valves and cylinders
Shell V Power - Less consumption and power than Vortex, valves and cylinders are dirtier than Ultimate.

Never had a chance to see the valves and cylinders while I was on Vortex.

Would be nice..... one day I will work there.....

Seriously though, all 98 fuel other than BP over here gets shipped in from the eastern states, or Singapore. Woodside don't make anything above 95 oct over here.

I only been tried out between Caltex 95 & 98 and Shell 95 & 98 most of the time over the 70K on my car because of discount doc.
I found 98 of both companies give about the same mileage and power, and of course they do better than 95.
But when I work out the extra cost of the 98 over 95, 98 seems to be a little bit more expensive to run per Km.
Its all depends what type of drive you are doing. In City, the cheaper 95 (without E10 of course) is the best, because you burn petrol standing still more than making Km. Where is for HWY, especially for long road trip, 98 will be better.

believe what you may, that is what i have noticed.

Shell/Caltex from what i claimed was used prior to any mods done.
BP/Mobil was before/after mods.

I just started using BP Ultimate and the motor seems to spin up more smoothly now (maybe it's a figment of my imagination).

Does anyone know what year Honda made the changes to the VTEC to stop the sudden rush of power? In my car i don't feel any of this "rush" even up to 7000rpm.

Psy

^^

Yeah i noticed that when i pump in BP aswell.

I put in Vortex the other day for a test and i did notice a loss in power, couldn't really tell much difference in fuel consumption.

Power was definelty different.

BP had the best power output IMO, then Mobil.

Well...if you are driving the new Euro, it should kick in around 5k rpm. I tried it the other day and i certainly notice that. The power just kick in from 5k to 7k rpm..

so far this week after filling up with bp ultimate. with aobut 65% highway 35% city/suburban driving. i ahve an average consumption of 8.8L/100kms. with about 1000kms on the clock. altohught it is probably me just getting used to the car and driving it more smoothly and not hitting vtec this week.

I have the superceded one, build date Feb 08. I feel nothing that represents VTEC but rather a linear power curve all the way to redline.

i think that would be the I-VTEC...applying it when needed or something. read somewhere about it kicking in lower down but not really noticeable. correct me if im wrong. but i think on the 08 and earlier its 6K RPm for vtec?

No, both cars have the same i-vtec. 03-08 is at 6000rpm. not sure about 2nd gen model switchover RPM.

Huh?! thats a bit funny..
I clearly noticed the power from 5k rpm till 7k rpm.. Again, its not the type of push you get in turbo charge...but you certainly can feel it.
Try from 1st gear to 7k rpm, then 2nd gear....

I just get extra 4cents off per liter with the dockets....You know that's a scam, don't you? You save 4c/L at the pump, but when you buy the groceries/merchandise from the shops to get the dockets, you more than pay for your savings at the bowser.

Anyhoo, I use BP Ultimate. http://www.themixingbowl.org/image/smilies/smile1.gif

But, most of us exceed $30 anyway when we buy our groceries. So we might as well get that 4 cents off.

I've tried all the 98 fuels and have found them to be pretty much the same except for Shell which i found to get a little less Ks per tankfull and not run quite as smooth as the others. What we need is a test done under controlled conditions on the Euro with the various 98 fuels.

I usually get my fruits and veg from the market as they are cheaper, and others stuffs from coles, kmart, etc....

I use mobil synergy 8000 "only". Tried Shell v power get more k's out of shell but response not as good as mobil synergy 8000. So Mobil, less k's but get their quicker vs. shell more k's get there slower ;)

Petrol station down the road had new tanks installed, logical to put petrol from their, I think anyway !!

just put $15 of bp ultimate into my cl9. throttle response seems much better than vpower, but vpower seems to have better economy. I'll stick to vpower due to 4c dockets, but ultimate definitely gave the car a bit more oomph.
