Hi all

Just did a quick search but couldn't find anything to answer my question - feel free to point me in the right direction if I've missed anything.

I've just taken out the stock rear 6" speakers and bought a pair of 6x9s. There is a _very_ solid metal plate that that screws into the roof of the boot to hold the speakers. So solid that I have no chance of being able to cut the plate to accommodate the new speakers.

Does anyone know where I can purchase replacement plates or spacers that will fit 6x9s? I'm in Sydney...

Spent a fair bit of time on the weekend replacing the front 2 speakers and the improvement over stock is great, hence I am rather keen to get the rears in asap.

Cheers!

Spacers you could make out of MDF board, if your quite the craftsman :D

Or if your feeling lazy, JBHIFI have spacers for 6x9's

I thought you could remove that silver plate ? i just run stocks in the back, 2x 15"s are loud enough u can't hear the back speakers anyway :P

yeh the speakers in the back should be 6x9 as a stock standard feature
Me and mate tried changing the rear speakers and it was quite difficult.
so i just paid a car installer to do it....

he said that hondas are good cars but hard a bitch to mod lol

front speakers weren't a drama but the rears were

Yeah, and the good thing about MDF board is, its easy to work with, with materials, i think the whole back shelf would be a bitch to cover in any other material than its stock material, buts its worth a shot if your up for it.

I ripped out the stock 6x9's 6-9 months ago and just slotted Pioneer 4ways in, no dramas.: TS-A6982S
http://www.pioneer.com.au/Products/Car Entertainment/Speakers/TS A6982S.aspx

The little speaker cover thingy that went over the stock 6x9's doesn't fit anymore, but prob. would with spacers and now the Pioneer covers that came with the speakers cover them.

I can get a pic if you want -

win-win. But yeah, I can't really hear them up front - the cheap Fusion splits up front and the sub kind of drown them out a fair bit :)

I like your thinking !

Then you can cover it, if needed with a material such as suede, the backshelf and door inserts and centre console is easy to recover in most materials :)

i'll show u guys soon how i mounted my huge 6x9's in using the OEM covers :)

easiest way to do it

is instead of mounting it on top of the shelf, mount it from the bottom of the shelf via the rear boot.

saves u at least 1-4 cms depth so you can use the standard covers :)

That's what I planned to do as well, but when I tried to do it I found I couldnt get a good seal for the speakers. So I just wussed out and spaced up the covers :D

good seal? lol

make a MDF spacer to go on top of the speakers

i rather do this then raise my stock OEM covers, looks funny

Yeah, a good seal. Speakers don't work very well if there's a bad seal between it and the mounting surface. The raised grill isn't obvious, at least not to me.

I’ll join the majority here and say DIY! I have done it on many cars...from my past experience I would mount everything out of the car and make sure if sits nicely.. Then add your spacers and try to seal it nicely so sound does speakers make do not escape into your boot but rather into your car....I have done spacers for 6 inch holes where 6x9 speakers were installed and it worked just perfect...you would do this if you are powering them with an amp as they tend to vibrate quite a lot and you do not want them touching the metal bits....
