How u doin guys, i own a DC4 teg n am plannin 2 do an engine conversion sometime in the near future, i have been working on my suspension and handling so that the car is pretty much ready 2 go when the engine goes in.

The stock DC4 brakes arent exatly race items so im looking 2 upgreade them, as i enjoy my hills the stock brakes arent the safest thing as they hav a tendency 2 lock up in under 2 much pressure.

I have come across an ITR ABS unit 4 a decent price and am wondering what is involved in installing it into my DC4, what other parts would i need etc? Is it possible 2 hook it up 2 stock Disks/calipers although im planin 2 put Vti-r Hubs on the front n move my front hubs on the rear (wana stick with 4 stud hubs as i have 2 sets of rims n dont wana waste em).

If some1 could giv me an idea of what is required it would b much appreciated as im tryin 2 figure out if this idea is worth going along with.

Cheers, Paul.

It is definately possible.

You'll need the whole ABS system though. which includes:

ABS Control unit /fuse box
ABS Actuator
ABS brake lines
Upgraded master cylinder (1 inch item)
ABS Wheel speed sensors on all 4 wheels (i think its a total wheel bearing assembly)
possibly ECU not sure
and maybe the cluster if you want the light to come on.

IMO, installing ABS in a car that didn't have it is stupid especially for the type of driving your talking about. Race cars remove ABS and even remove brake boosters in order to improve performance.

If you keep finding that your locking up you should look at your discs/pad combination and practice more on your braking technique.

The only reason your car is locking up at the moment is cause of the person with their foot on the brake pedal.

yeah, i wasnt going 2 bother puttin abs on 4 exact same reasons as u stated, at the end of the day i kno that stopping distance is much shorter w/out abs but the only reason im considerin this is coz i found the unit at such a cheap price.

My brakes hav locked up on me 3 times in my 2 year ownership of the car, im was really considerin this as a safety feature more than anything. Cheers 4 ur feedback anyway, i'll look into how much it would all set me bak n if its a bit much wont bother wit it.

How bout swapping hubs from front 2 bak? easy job? Calipers and hubs is all i need?

Do the stock Gsi hubs differ 2 Vti-R or r they identical (except ABS obviously)?

you shouldn't need calipers as far as i know. hubs you will. It's probably easier to take the whole knuckle from the ABS equiped car instead of pressing the bearings out. that way you get any brackets and stuff you don't already have.

also, a lighter car stops sooner then a heavier car. ABS adds weight :p
