Whats better for the drags? 195/50/15 vs 195/55/15 ?:thumbsup:

Higher profile allows for lower PSI to be used in the tyre.
Having said that, decent(stiff) sidewalls help.

you wont notice much i dont think for 50 to 55 the idea is the lower the profile the harder the ride will be and the more resonsive the tyre will be

stiff sidewalls are shit for drag.. 55 will be better no doubt for drag... run 15 psi through them you should get a decent launchh

for drags you want more rubber, the 55 series will be better, also when you drop the PSI there will be a larger surface patch

Yeh, stiff sidewalls are bad for drag, you want more flex. 195/55 is best.

thanks guys just what i thought, i tried the 55 series on my eg. the profile looks so big might have to go for 50 series.

But.....why ?
Clearly 55 profile will be more suited to drag racing.
And , 195x55x15 is the standard honda tyre size for 15 inch.
50 profile will slightly put your speedo out of whack.
Plus is the look and 50 profile is cheaper.

Yeh i have a set of 55 series ADO7 atm i'll keep them for the drags and will be getting 50 Series for daily. :thumbsup:
Im always thought eg ran 50 series and ek ran 55 ?

egs never came with 15 inch wheels. Only 14 inch steelies or wheels (del sol and optional for eg sedan/hatch)
The EK4 and EM1 both came with 195x55x50 , and so did the dc2s (vtir and dc2r). My point is the stock tyre size for 15 inch rim is 195x55x50 so IMO try to stick with it :)

195/55/15 usually cost about $50 more each tyre compared to 195/50/15. Thats $200 more to pay at the tyre shop for a set of 4 if you went 195/55/15.
The difference between the 55 and 50 series is the load rating.
55 usually = 85 load rating (515 kg max load per tyre)
50 usually = 82 load rating (475 kg max load per tyre)
The above numbers are meant to be a guide only.

uhhhh.....yeah EK's and EM1's might have 195x55x50 standard but the EG had a 175/65/14 (breeze and gli) or 185/60/14(vti).... I remember when i went to get tyres for my 15" rims that the overall diameter was closer to the 195/50/15 profile than a 195/55/15 profile.
Just because a later model civic has them standard doesn't mean its gonna be better for the eg in terms of speedo accuracy. Having said that either tyre wont be more than 5% out overall.
In terms of what's better for drags....you want a tyre without a stiff sidewall like one of those BFG street legal drag radials and a 55 profile will be better. Ever seen 19"s with 40 profile tyres on a real drag car?

90LAN has an eg6 and has a tyre placard saying 195/55/15
But yeh i checked my placard and it works out 195/50/15is equivilent to 185/60/15 :thumbsup:
