View Full Version : exhaust questions
looking to have my exhaust system installed.
got headers and a muffler atm, looking for a cat.
Just wondering whether i should change my bpipe aswell. should i upgrade to 2.25" piping size? or use the stock one? is the stock 2"?
thanks !

depends on if you want low down torque or top end power .how big is the collector on the headers? and are they 4-2-1 or 4-1? if the collector is 2.25" then you should probally change the b pipe aswell. if the headers are 4-1 then you might lose a significant amount of low end torque.

change your b-pipe too yo
since your getting it done already might as well get the whole system
no hotdog on b-pipe :p

what are the benefits of changing it? seeing as its a stock d-motor 2.25" size piping is the max anyone would go.
so assuming the stock one is 2" wouldnt it be sufficient?

not sure yet dude...what about you? have you done many quotes?
yeh.. im doing it in about 3 weeks.. most probably heading to liverpool exhaust... reasonable price and heard the quality is decent... but .. western mufflers is a tad cheaper.

So youve done the headers and axle back yer?
And you're looking at changing the cat and maybe the bpipe?
Imo its worth it to change the whole exhaust, on my integra I changed it all in one go (put on stands and put it in ourselfs) and once I took it for a drive it felt so much nicer to drive.
I was going from a stock vtir exhaust (1.75" iirc and press bent) to a 2.25" mandrelbent (5zigen headers, highflowcat, fujitsubo catback).
Its feels like it has alot more torque down low and now with my cai it revs alot better.
Hope that helps.

What is the inlet on the Muffer, and the Outlet of the headers. Buy a B-pipe for sure! Just make sure the diameters of the muffler and headers is the same. The exhaust will flow better. You can get custom B-pipes... but if you have $400 or perhaps less... you can pick up a Vision B-pipe brand new!

nuh i havnt got anything done yet. just got the pieces at home lol.
hrmm if your dc2 was 1.75" then mine definately isnt 2" so i'm gonna have to change my b-pipe for sure. thanks!

Mine was 1.75 inside diameter iirc.
But yer its worth it to change the whole system imo.
What engine do you have?

ur exhaust is only as strong as its weakest point. any stock component will have a "bottle-neck" effect on ur exhaust. think of it literally like a bottle. u can have the biggest bloody bottle in the world but it will flow out of the bottle at the same rate as a much smaller one will assuming that the diameters of both openings are identical

ah, fluids in motion...god, i wish i had studied more in highschool.
yeh. Your small B pipe will compromise flow.

on a d series 2" is sufficient, unless your gonna work the engine or boost it.
Its not a powerhouse but the 2" will let it breath freely

thts what im thinking aswell.. 2" should be sufficient. although what i really want to know is the difference between 2 and 2.25....is it going to do me better or worse?

i dont know much about exhaust. but this was a good read.

doesnt really answer your question though. sorry bud.
Forgetting about the crinkle and mandrel bent difference guys.
yeah im going for mandrel bent.

mandrel ftw.
as limbo mentioned, 2" is enough on a stock setup unless ur doing something further down the track. stepping up to 2.25" u'll probably start to get a farty/droning sound if the rest of your car is stock, not to mention u'll probably lose some low down torque
But if you don't change your b pipe.. then you would probably not put in resonator and wud sound kinda drony anyway.... Maybe you could ask the people who's doing your exhaust to measure.. how big the pipe is? lol And isnt stock pipes crinkle bent? that reduces the flow.

im definitely changing the b-pipe just not sure if i should go 2" or 2.25"

the 2" will give you gains throughout the band.
The 2 1/4" will give slightly higher peak power but you will loose low-mid end power.
The D series was only meant to make its power in the mid-end. Its not a high revver, unless it is rebuilt to rev higher, thus your gonna loose power and spend money on something that is not suited for your car.
Big is not always better on NA cars.

go see Hakan at performance exhaust i'm sure he will hook you up, and can explain the different types of systems you want

thats the reply i wanted to see lol thanks limbo.
I rather set the car up to began to have some decent gains low-mid range because obviously the D is a pansy lol.
I'll go speak to someone at an exhaust shop and see how i go.
Just sharing the thread haha.... 2.25" for my B16A?
yeah i'd say 2.25 as well for b16.
2.5 if you have engine work

only thing i don't like about 2 1/2" on a b16 is its bloody loud.
And then its totally gutless low down
