My father 94 accord vti exhaust sound sound really weak. A friend of mine said that its a common problem for the exhaust to fail.

Our family has 3x accords in the family.

Is this true? If so what is generally the problem that gives the exhuast a different tone?

i've heard the same thing, but i really don't know.
i myself have a 95 accord and mine still has the original exhaust, but in the near future i will be changing it, just to something with a bit deeper tone, make it sound nice but not over the top.

hope you find out ;)

The muffler i think.....since its the muffler that makes the tone/sound usually......plus on my cb7.. my muffler almost literally snapped off at the muffler..to the rest of the piping

Umm i've never had this problem with my CD5 but i have seen it happen to a few people. My CB7 Has never had an exhaust system change since day one so its stock as rock... Nothing wrong with it at all...

I guess its can come down to how far you live away to where your going. If ur car is doing alot of short drives then the exhaust can rust due to the moisture. But thats what i'm guessing... If i were you get it checked out!

When I bought my 1995 CD5 both mufflers had rusted out holes in them so I replaced the exhaust with a 2.25" catback system. I know of a couple others that have had similar problems, so I might say its somewhat of a common occurrence...

Its pretty easy to tell if an exhaust has rusted out or not though, just stick your head under the car and look! :)

yeh mufflers aint stainless ( all cars are same)

but once the protective coating paint comes off,, watch that muffler go into rust mode

my exhaust sounds like a bubble making machine

but i have a spare one :)

go check to the muffler specialist. its probably the exhaust pipe or muffler is damaged, could be from road scrapping or rust.

An OEM replacement muffler (so same as what comes out of the factory), will set ya back anywhere up to $350 brand new. You could pick up a second hand one for a fair bit cheaper, but then you obviously run the risk of it happening again, or already being rusted to start with. Another alternative is to buy some sort of "sports" muffler or go all out with an aftermarket catback exhaust. Talk to a local exhaust shop and they'll steer ya in the right direction. =)

you most likely have a hole/corrosion in your exhaust, but not necessarily from the rear muffler. also the baffles in your muffler could be loose, this can also cause increased noise.

your best bet would be to go to a muffler shop and getting them to inspect/replace it. there is no point spending dealer prices for oem when in some cases you can get it for 50-60% of the oem price

mate, you wouldnt bother with a factory replacement. You wouldnt bother picking up a phone to call your honda dealer, because they will give you some BS price on it. $350 for a muffler is ridiculous anyways, you could get a nice magnaflow for the same price.

Best option, go see a decent exhaust shop and see what they can do for you, they will prob have a standard replacement which is fairly new if you dont want the whole "sports" exhaust. But dont bother trying honda for a muffler, you could get an alternative off ebay for $30, and then another $20-$30 to weld it on.

Sorry ive been blabbering on a bit, Just hate Honda spare parts.

My symptoms of exhaust problems were lack of response, lack of power and an "airy", "breathy" kinda sound to the exhaust under load.

I went to D&T Performance (Adelaide, City) at: 12 Gilbert St - Adelaide SA 5000. Ph: 08 8212 4100, http://www.dtperformance.com.au.

They put the car on a car lift (that's what they're called right?) and I checked it out. The cat-back on my CD5 was rusty and had holes (leaks?) where it joined the cat. I already had a nice magnaflow, so they put in a 2" stainless catback (and new cat) for $400 (not mandrel bent). Normal mild steel was $200 from memory. to them, It sounds awesome and the car is certainly more responsive than before!
