just wondering how often does the ps fluid be changed? i can't find it in the honda service manual.. also, a reputable mechanic told me it is not necessary.
however i read somewhere that changing the ps fluid maintains the health of the steering components...does that mean using old fluid could break some of the steering components?
i need second opinions from you guys. cheers. :D
It's certainly not as crucial as engine and ATF oil, and I would change it every 80,000-100,000kms or whenever the oil looks dirty ie dark brown instead of light yellow (new) to light brown colour.
When I changed the p/s fluid on my fren's EK1 and our dc2, the old fluid wasnt too bad, it was a bit dark and right after the change you can tell the pump ran smoother and you can feel an improvement on the steering wheel as well.
The p/s fluid on my eg has deterioated a lot since I started tracking the car and it got pretty hot and started to spit out the reservoir. With warmer weather coming and sticky tyres coming, not only I need to change the fluid more often but an inline oil cooler is on the cards also for me.

a mechnic mate of mine said its a non-servicable item... he cited the reason as the difficulty in doing the job... apparently you need to flush with a couple of litres of oil which is costly and wasteful. However he recently bought a machnie that drains and refils simultaneously from the reservoir. I had mine changed last week, and the oil was black... mind you i havent had it changed since new...
feels a lot nicer now

I had it changed. The fluid that came out was black and the one that went in was white/clear.
