Has anyone installed a 1.3+ radiator cap into their euro's?

Mugen/Spoon/J’s Racing/Greddy all claim that they improve cooling efficiency over stock (rated at 1.1) as it increases pressure and lowers the boiling point of coolant. Some people have reported more temp stability.

I am bit skeptical about this and if anyone has had any experience or feedback, considering our euro’s do tend to run fairly hot it might not be a bad thing. In most cases people just might put them on for some bling :D but apparently it could cause leaks to hoses, water pumps, etc. as it raises the cooling system pressure?

Thanks!

Euros don't run hot. Everyone uses it but not long enough to show the additional wear to the cooling system. My greatest concern would be that it causes cracks to the plastic radiator tops. :)

Haha, my bad. I read it some where a while ago so had always thought that. Besides the additional wear, are there any benefits that you have experienced? Or is it basically on there for the bling factor? :)

:thumbsup: you don't want one of these if your thermostat ceases shut

If your thermostat ceases shut aint you going to have issues anyway? 1.1 vs 1.3, the difference in pressure is not that great.

its almost 20 percent!

so you got it for bling, and it does nothing.

OP: IMO save your money.

Apparently it lowers the coolant boiling point, in turn better cooling... I guess for street driving it would never make a difference.

If your thermostat ceases shut, then you will get a kick up your backside for using a non-Honda OEM thermostat. :p

No, it RAISES the coolant's boiling point. When your coolant starts boiling, you start losing cooling efficiency.

if your water boils with 1.1bar it'd still escape through the rad cap and into reservoir... with 1.3 the pressure is higher and chances are you'll burst weak hoses or end tanks.. i know coz i've had it happen... ended up getting a rebuild coz it rooted my engine, cooling sytem and warped the head from overheating

I got a new radiator cap on one of my old cars (86 magna lol).

It was only an OEM cap but cause the old one wasn't working properly and the new one was, it blew all my hoses and almost gave me a warped head lol

Opps. Thats what i was meant to say. hahaha

yeah happened to me too... all the other dead parts killed the rad cap.

i make it a habit now to change my cooling system stuff yearly, hoses, thermostat, rad cap.

but having all the above fresh and a slightly damaged/leaking waterpump will kill the waterpump lol...

but IF i were ever to use a 1.3bar cap again i would combined it with the low temp thermostat (lower spring pressure) to make sure the system doesn't seize.. but then again to have to do all that is unnecessary

LOL, that's not a bad idea for bling but I don't think they make them that small :(

Stock system with alloy radiator would be better then anything else!

(that is if you're actually trying to make your car run cooler/cool more efficiently)

Unfortunately, the Euro comes with a plastic radiator top. :(
