View Full Version : New Civic Sport to be Mod!

Bought a Civic Sport earlier this year and have finally saved up a bit of cash to make some changes. I posted on this site earlier during the year but had never saved up enough cash up until now. Was thinking of a bodykit previously but found it too expensive as I was quoted 1100 for Mugen, and then 700 for the paint job. Now thinking of just lowering the car and changing to a nice set of rims to give the car presence. Just wondering if any of you guys have tried 18" on the Civic and how's the ride of it. As well as this, is there anyone in Brissie who would recommend any sites or stores I could visit to take a look at tyres. Any recommendations on how I should mod my vehicle are appreciated! Thank you all!

I've taken a look at a few rims and the JDM rims, which I think are primarily Jap rims range easily from 500-600 each for 18". I'm wondering how painful the ride will be on 18". I really haven't gone and mod'd a car ever but so far I was told I should get a nice set of rims followed by lowering the car onto a set of springs etc...

If I get a new set of rims I'd derfinitely be interested in selling mine along with the tyres. But until I can find a decent set... I think you might have to wait ...:(

dont sell your stockies mate.. its a shit if u wanna sell the car stock again

id get lowered a bit first and then re-evaluate what u wanna do.

Is it okay o lower the car first before changing the rims? Because I had previously believed that you needed to have your new rims first before lowering, but maybe I'm wrong. As well as that, with the car lowered and without a kit, would fitting a wing seem weird guys?

No you dont need to change your rims before you lower it...but it is most probs cheaper when you do it with ur rims cause u can put together a package...

Just wondering if any of you guys have tried 18" on the Civic and how's the ride of it.

I had 18s on my old civic sport lowered on king springs...Cant say it was the best ride ever...on flat surfaces its fine but any bump you hit you will feel it..and speed humps and drive ways were a B*tch but its just one of those things you get use to...

well if u going to change the rims to the same size or an inch bigger, lowering the car first would be GREAT idea...so u can see how the car sits on the HOT STOCK ENKEIS!!!

the idea is if you get bigger wheels you keep the same geometry as your old wheels, you just increase the amount of metal and reduce the amount of rubber.

I was looking at a nice set of 18" the other day and I'm still deciding on whether to shop around a little more as I don't want to be too impulsive and regret picking the wrong set. On the other hand, I was thinking of getting a nice Mugen wing. I've stocked it at the moment but don't know whether my car will look decent lowered, rims, wing, but no bodykit, or will the lowering make it look alot better alone? None the less I apologise for taking so long to take a look at my thread cos I've just been stuck at uni.

07 stockies are mad........just get suspension thats all the sports need.

12-09-2008, 06:16 PM
my persoanl thought :
1. rims (without bodykit and lowered still looks ok), and add
2. bodykit (without lowered, but ur car will slightly looks lowered and u can start judge how low do u want to go)
3. lowered

mate, i'll just say this... I have my FD at stock height with the full mugen kit... my front lip is scraping with just about any freakin driveway... luckily I've got two driveways... cos one scraps the crap out of my front lip. So get the bodykit... then look at lowering.

markCivicVti
14-09-2008, 10:45 AM
and 18" won't affect the ride that much... just do us all a favour and stay away from chromies! (sorry Frosty :) )

hey you dont void warranty or anything right if u lower ur car and add stuff (not performance enhance.. ) onto your car?

black8thgen
14-02-2009, 01:24 PM
nope - dont void warranty.

markCivicVti
14-02-2009, 02:12 PM
No, doesn't void... but if they can put the blame of something failing on stiffer suspension then yes they'll blame it on the suspension and won't cover the warranty.

For instance a member here had lowering springs... his 6 cd stacker died... and Honda told him they won't replace it as it was the stiffer suspension that probably killed the cd stacker...

so moral of the story is... don't do any mods unless you are willing to ACCEPT the possibility of Honda turning around and saying they won't replace something cos of a unrelated mod.

the moment you lower the car you can prolly expect to void any electrical warranty and definitly the whole suspension setup. Engine may be ok... except for engine mounts etc.

my sunroof was cracking around the edges on my FD2 and they wouldnt put it on warranty cause they said i lowered the car which cause the roof to flex when i went around corners...
so i took it to a mechanic actually two mechanics and they were like wtf what a joke....

Thanks.
I think i might get a CTR replica spoiler for it for the time being and then wait a bit and see what comes out for 09 models later down the line.

Id love to get the OEM JDM FD2R kit for it but the prices for this genuine kit are insane.

I just picked up an 09' sports stock. Not really thinking of making any mods at this stage but just curious if I was to lower the car, would that void my insurance? I think it puts some extra on premiums though right?

btw - who are you guys insured with?

Frankly the best first mod will be new set of brake pads, front strut bar, 16mm rear anti roll bar. It drives so much better for under $1000 all fitted, if your keeping stock sport rims with mugen kit later forget about lowering and just get koni fsd shocks and match with your stock springs. Increased comfort also. Best bang for buck mods for street drivng not tracking

black8thgen
19-02-2009, 08:43 PM
but do you really need the strut bars and anti roll for road use?

xqwzit
19-02-2009, 08:45 PM
Yes u will be surprised with the rear anti roll. Don't get more than 16mm u will fk the endlinks

xqwzit
19-02-2009, 09:02 PM
For those who changed rims with better ground clearance u can get eibach pro kit to match with koni fsd shocks. They r recommended by koni, if not stock springs will do the job

Thanks mate - and can I ask how did the ultra front strut and rear sway bar ride now? are you still running stock suspension?

Where did you purchase the bars? did you say $250 for both items?

Waternmo
03-04-2009, 08:03 PM
i think its 250 for strut brace only, which is same price as the cusco strut bar... rear sway bar by cusco is 23mm thick, comes with brackets too. around 400bucs

quick question on front grille for 09 civic sport, saw it on mugen website it has a diff shape, just wondering if the 06 FD mugen grille will fit a 09 civic sport?

vman
03-04-2009, 09:06 PM
Since we are on the topic - can someone also confirm if the 2009 civic front bumper fit previous models?

I would say that if it does then the grill will fit

Also - does anybody know what the offset on the 2007 Civic Sport stock wheels?

black8thgen
03-04-2009, 09:18 PM
17x7 +45 offset. oh wait.. its either 40 or 45, its in the logbook somewhere lol.

u'll probably need to get a pair of new tyres, in dat case i suggest u get sumthin non OEM, it will cost less n in most cases, better performance.

Man, those Michelins are pricey $280 fitted for 1 tyre! My spare is brand new and the rest of the tyres have only done like 10K.. so i'll probably get a cheaper tyre just to use as a spare... The guy suggested some Pirelli Dragons for $209... are they alrite?? or should i go even cheaper?

08-04-2009, 09:20 PM
215 45 R17 i would recommend Falken FK452, got em for aorund 190 per corner for my old car, and i think performance wise they ar not bad at all, stiff sidewalls (what i look at first when buyin new tyres) or if u want higher performance, Hankook RS2 with R compound is also a good choice for around 215 per tyre, personally would not recommend toyo, drives like the cars floating =_=...

FK452 around 230 a tyre? i asked b4 but dont hav the quote with me... planning to get 18 x 7.5 rims so 225 40 R18 will be the size im after too ! i want to get RE001 again but its just gettin to expensive nowadays... also waitin to test the Yoko AD08!

also a question for everyone, im lookin at gettin ultra racing tower bar, where can i get'em cheapest? thanks heaps
