Whats your speedo out by? mine is out by like 6km/h when i am doing like 100km/h its reading 94km/h on the GPS anyway thought it might be just an issue with my gps but did a reset on my trip and went to work... it took me 25.5k to work... Wait a min... thats wrong i have been taking the same route for maybe a couple hundred times and i am sure its anywhere between 24.5 to 24.7.... is there anyway to recalibrate the speedo? how much would it cost me?

did you change your wheels? that could play a role

All cars are like that for safety reasons. You will never see a stock car that is going faster than what is indicated.
Typically, the Euro does 96km/h when 100km/h is indicated.

nope... totally stock 16"

i remember someone saying most cars have a 6% reading add up reading so if your car says your going 100, your actually going 94..

is it real?? cause i had like 9 cars in the past and like non did that... actually there might be 1 and that was like a 92' magna so i dont really see why it didnt... But on and accord euro...:(

Yes.
All cars are different. One could be 99km/h at 100km/h, another could be 92km/h at 100km/h
If you look at the reviews in the Wheels (or Motor?) Magazine, they tell you the actual speed when at 100km/h in the specs. I dont think I have ever seen 100km/h at 100km/h

hm... anyway was thinking of resetting my ecu...
are the steps right?
- Undo battery
- pump on the brakes maybe 3 pumps before it gets stucked?
- wait for 10 min
- reconnect
- run it idle for 10min
- turn engine off
- turn it back on after a min or so
- reset the radio and turn on the aircon
- drive off slowly ( ok this is the part that really wonders me)
if i am to drive and go into the rev range, wont the ecu on my AUTO be learning to change gears late in like 3500rpms instead of like 2500rpms??
can anyone correct my procedures for resetting the ecu shown above?

no,
- just unplug the negative terminal for 10min then put it back on.
- and drive however you want it to as the ECU will relearn.
[YOUR FRIEND WHO GAVE YOU THE INSTRUCTIONS MADE YOU LOOK LIKE A TOOL] <-- DON'T TAKE THIS SERIOUSLY
NO RADIO CODE IS REQUIRED or any of that stuff you mentioned.
No the ecu doesn't learn how to change gears, and it won't change the shifting point.

Where the hell are you getting these instructions from? If it was a friend he just wants u to look like a Dik doing all that crap....
As Mentioned above,
Unplug the batt neg terminal for 5 mins.
OR
Pull the fuse out for the ECU for about 2 mins.
Then drive how ever you want. The ECU will relearn itself.

lol @ those instructions. What is that for, a 1985 DeLorean ? :p
The only thing you need to reset is the drivers auto-wind function:
Press the power window button down, wait for the window to go down, and hold for 3 seconds.
Press the power window button up, wait for the window to go up, and hold for 3 seconds.
Resetting the ECU wont change the speedo accuracy...

I have reset my ECU a couple of times, its easy.
Open Bonnet
Disconnect Negative Battery terminal OR the backup Fuse.
Leave for 10 minutes (it takes less than a minute :p)
Reconnect the Battery or Fuse.
Re-calibrate the Drivers Window.
Thats it! :)

lol, i dont even need to reset drivers window.
what's the problem with the drivers window when reset? can't remember from top of my head.

does it mean you wouldnt have to start it up and let it idle for 10mins? after resetting?

The Auto function stops working (where you press the button down once, and it automatically lowers the window).

Yes you can do that as well. Probably wont make much difference with newer models.

so what about the drive and rev through the revs to enable the ecu to learn throughout the revs??? so i need to do that?
EuroDude
11-09-2008, 03:45 PM
I didn't do all that, and mine is normal. It will progressively learn as you go.

Mines about the same as yours OP. I think it goes to about 104 (on gps) when I do 110 in the car.
a cop told me that majority speedos r meant to read 10% slower than what it shows so that pplz dont speed

you CANNOT resest the euros ecu like you can with old school ecus... it has an microchip for memory backup, so disconnecting power will not relearn idle procedures, or a/f maps, or your speedo... from factory the speedo is meant to read lower, as said by others, its a safety thing...
if you want to do an idle relearn, you HAVE to take yor car to a honda dealer/service specialist and get it connected to the PGM... or by one yourself for a couple thousand dollars...
all disconnecting the battery will do, is reset your auto window set up... and possibly your radio presets if you leave it off long enough (neither of mine have ever reset)

WTF you never lost your radio stations?
FOOK it annoys the hell outta me,
my stock radio/ alpine HU / tein edfc settings all get lost. :(
you must have one hellova car!
Or add-on to your comment --> otherwise tune up using piggyback systems or aftermarket Engine management systems such as haltech or emanage.

EVERYTHING!
lucky mate.
I wouldn't rely on gps to give you an accurate figure for your speed.....try going through a speed camera however klm's you think it's out by and you'll find out for sure. Speed cameras are calibrated reguarly, not just once from factory like our cars are

I think GPS is most accurate as it would take distance/time=speed (velocity). HOWEVER, there is probably a 1 second lag before you see the speed....by then you could be going faster/slower than stated.
Crapdaz
11-09-2008, 09:36 PM
lxry can you try it too? =P
5km slower is pretty accurate.

Take the positive lead off, not the negative. That way the chassis remains grounded to the battery.

yeh and in electrical terms applying the positive back with the negative connected equals gg electronics.

Yeah, I guess it doesn't matter anyway, zap = zap however it's been grounded.

That is why you need to test on the open road at a fixed speed (ie with cruise on at 100kph) and a flat road if possible. With a good GPS signal.
GPS is definately the best way to check your speedo

Why is GPS the best way to check? Just curious i thought it would lag a bit or something

GPS calculates an average of how long it takes you to get from point A to point B... so it isnt 'live' so to speak... however, if your on a straigh road, not varying speed, then they are extremely accurate... only variance will be the software built into them (navmans usually read 1km/hr slower)

lols! I had a good arguement with a good friend of mine over speedo accuracy.
He said his new Mitsubishi Triton was a weapon, with fast acceleration, and quick cruising speed.
I won the arguement when I pulled out my GPS. His speedo was over 10km/h out!!!
My speedo on my Toyota prado is about 5 - 6km/h out at 110km/h. ~115km/h on the dial is 110km/h on the GPS.
My CU2 is a bit better, about 2 - 3km/h out.
damn i pull mine out and within a few seconds it's all gone.
lol lol lol. It seems as if you need to see a urologist!
