View Full Version : number plate position
Hey, bought my car with the number plate directly applied to the front bumper, what are some things that i can do to relocate the number plate? looks really bodgy and hurts to see a number plate directly bolted to the bumper :(

zip ties...tie it up, that why no need for drilling.

buy/make a bracket for the front air drum. If you feel like DIY look for a "relocation bracket" for DC5 on ebay and copy that... isn't to hard to make
Putting it off to the passenger side seems to be the fashion. Just make sure that the plate is facing forwards (not on any angle) and can be veiwed from a 45' angel.
Also... If the plate has been drilled directly into the bar, when you take it off you'll have hole/s in your front bar.

when i got mine it had this massive ugly ass plastic thing the plate sat against. i ripped it straight off and put the screws back in the same hole with the number plate against the bumper however i put little rubber cylender sorta things behind the plate so its not making contact with the bumper to avoid scratching.
i realy want to buy one of those offset plate holders but dont want two ugly scre holes in my front bar what can i do?
just get a 90 degree aluminum plate and mount it like this

yeah simonnowis, zip ties is handy actually, using em to mount onto the front area like Tofu said is pretty good, rather than putting holes onto ur bumper.
About the holes, try putting silicone =/ or those gap fillers filling up the holes?

that im not sure, however the only thing i know is you might be in trouble if your new number plate or private number plate whatever, is out of the range of sizes for the plates
this ones mine, http://img142.imageshack.us/img142/4940/licenseplateai2.th.jpg (http://img142.imageshack.us/my.php?image=licenseplateai2.jpg)

I took the plastic holder off, went to Bunnings and bought myself about $8 worth of metal "L" brackets, washers, bolts and screws.
On the DC5S - there are two bolt holes underneath the top part of the front air dam. About and hour and a bit of number plate hole filing later and voila, centre mounted numberplate that I angled backwards slightly to allow air to still flow through.
No more hiding the gorgeous angled nose of the DC5.

umm... I know it comes in White and Black... silver not sure. If they don't have any in silver just get a silver market and colour it in. If your going to colour it in make sure you get the white one so it blends in better.

You can buy a Beatrush (Laile) number plate bracket. Very well made my mate got one. Direct replacement on the factory holes.

Yeah ^ that was my other option, looks pretty good... but I do prefer the plate where I have it now.
Here's a sorta "almost done" pic of what I did. I took a washer or two out and bent the L plate down more so it wasn't on as much of an angle... but you get the idea. Mind the dirty car lol.

The Type S didn't come with holes in the front bar, so I didn't need a respray or anything.
It would disturb the air flow a little, but since I've angled my in a way where air can still get in underneath it, I'm really not worried. I haven't noticed any temperature changes or anything as far as it goes.

You can ask Max hondar power or JDMYARD get for you.
Its expensive as they made by lightweight alluminium.
about $100 mark I reckon.

Keep in mind, while the number plate might look dumb directly on the bumper, its not blocking any airflow to the condenser / radiator, everyone whos putting it down low, is blocking some volume of air getting to the components,
that is why they are placed there, I doubt it would affect your daily driver but on track it might actually make the difference needed

Naa i'm with 2002teggy waste of money for what it is. You could EASILY knock something up with some basic tools and about $15 worth of materials from bunnings... or use Zipties.

Is that because I said your friend wasted $100 on that "light weight" aluminium number plate relocater? But hey... i've owned the car for two and a half years, with the plate in that position, and have NEVER had any problems with the car running above normal operating temps. But hey... WTF would i know.
As teggy2002 said... sorry we can’t all be as “balla” as you and your friends.

I was lucky enough that the previous owner had the front bar resprayed and had the hole covered.
Your not wrong about matching the paint up. As the front bar as been resprayed, its a diff colour to the rest of the car... part of the reason why i'll be looking into a respray VERY soon. As for the holeif you fill it with some something (putty, silicon etc) then get some silver paint (get your partner to get some silver nail paint from the shop :p) you'll be able to cover the hole. It'll be noticeable up close, but from a distance no one is going to be any wiser.

Even though you may not mean badly kongfu, sometimes your words sound harsh :)
Aluminium is pretty cheap and its only a pressed piece of sheet.
Some people prefer the numberplate to be centred not on the side like Beatrush style.
Each to their own of course

Kongfu & 45Set have equally good points. I have to agree that one person's perception of value differs from the next but at the same time $100 bucks is pretty excessive for a solution with more than one alternative; each potentially costing a-tenth of the amount (I just used zipties!). As with everything that depends on choice, I guess the rule of thumb will be to go with what you personally like best, regardless of third-party opinions but this is a forum after all :-)
