Just a quick question for any electrically minded people out there on OH...

I had to fix some shorts in my wiring in my car and when i found they were broken in more then one place, i ran new wiring... Now the sensor is working, but it is still throwing the code...

My problem is, the wire i used was a larger size then the original wiring used in the car, would this cause any issues???

The ECT, when i start my car cold, dosen't seem to work, but after about a second it picks up and starts working... would this be caused by the larger diameter wire???

Cheers...

my say would be yes, it would affect the circuit using thicker cables. cause you ran thicker ones, the resistance would be less meaning you would be getting more current at what ever load its going to. another thing is you run the risk of either melting insulation of the cable and blowing fuses. anybody else come up with something else?

Riruiz ..you spot on using a larger wire will change the efffect on the reading that your ecu/ems is getting and could cause other issue's

but is an easy fix just go to an auto elec and buy some wire tha same size and replace

**** most important make sure your conections are goood the best way is to solder them as just twisting them will add resistance and cause troubles too

Excellent.. Cheers boys... I will do it this weekend.

I was just double checking as it was an emergency and it was all i had...

And definitely soldering... The majority of the old wiring was just twisted together and is now slowly falling apart...

Also, while on the topic of sh**y wiring... I checked for codes and got code 6 and 10... I shall fix 10 with the wiring as that was what the issue before was...

With code 6, I used ECU_MAN's diy and found the ground was faulty... By faulty i mean not connected... I connected it to the ground as instructed by the DIY and everytime i drive, and my speedo begins to move... My car just stops.... Like shutters and then stops running... unless i clutch and stop...

Any ideas to what this could be??? I had this problem when i tried to connect the VSS to the ECU. From that experience i believe that the problem could be from an incorrect signal...

Removed the ground from the pin and its all good again!

Any ideas would be a great help

Cheers

larger wire will make absolutely negligble difference, dont worry about changing it.0.001ohms does not make much difference to 300-3000ohms.

where did u ground the ect too? should be grounded to sensor ground originating at ecu.u really need to check the resistance measurements of the ect at cold & hot engine temps & the supply voltage(5V) to the ect as well,if u think it is grounded properly.

how did u determine there was no ground originally?,sounds like u just got some nasty grounding issues that need to be addressed in general.

hey, i will check the ECT to see if it is faulty but it dosent seem to be the sensor, cause it does work... just takes a second for it....

The ect is grounded to the pin ECU_MAN says in the DIY, C22...

I will drive tomorrow and see if it throws the codes again... If it does it will be a very long weekend of pulling apart the loom and replacing the dodgy old wiring...
