My A/C decided to break recently, so now I'm wondering where to go and how much I should pay at most.

Should I call the Honda dealer? Or am I just asking to be ripped off?

Or should I go to an automotive A/C repair place??

My car is out of warranty.

Anyone have similar experiences with getting their A/C fixed?

compressor die on you?

If so, how much would/should that cost?

One day parked, went into shop, came out started car, was backing out and then some huge growling sound....so im like....wtf, got out and checked if anything was stuck in my wheels. Nothing, so i went off and the sound disappeared.

1 week later, I'm driving to uni and it happens again, so again, im thinking.... w t f. I try a few things and conclude its my A/C

Next day, I am off again, and I thought I'd try one more time. Still growled so i turned it off....but then, it became really stuffy, so i pressed the A/C button to turn the a/c off and only have the fan on. Almost instantaneously, a huge BANG and this smell came in with a lil smoke from the vent. I just opened my bonnet when I got home and that same smell is still there.

......so THATs what happen.

Are you serious its common? Anyone else have this issue? Never heard of this problem on the euro. The only problem I heard before buying is that the clutch creaks (which mine does) and that it jerks a bit in first gear when going slowly.

not as common as those, but seen quite a few come in with a/c compressors blowing.

argh shiiiiiii! I called up honda and apparently the price of the compressor installed is about $1500!!!!!!!!!! Looks like I wont be getting the grill or new wheel soon :(

He said it COULD just be a pipe thats broken, so i'll have to had it looked at...if i ever get the time.

just curious on how the a/c compressor can blow?

- too much pressure and overuse causing it to fail?
- other reason i don't know......

So Anyway, I got my car all fixed today. The guy showed me my compressor which 'blew' oh man....it really did blow. 1/3 of the outer casing had shattered away, and the part inside had also done the same. He'd never seen anything like.

BUT YEA....I HAVE COLD AIR! WOO!

First quote = $3800
Second quote = $1285

I got a compressor from Melb set me back 400+50 (second hand)
then labour was 485.

Didn't really worry too much about shopping around for labour coz the guy working on my car seemed like a nice guy. Pretty helpful and honest (i thought). He was also an aircond specialist/auto electrician.
