Hi All,

I did have a nice Black FD just yesterday, but someone broke into the underground parking lot in my brothers flat in Concord and totally mashed it up. Busted window in the back, scratched the door up bad and the worst bit, destroyed my double din dash (see pic). Just when you have something looking nice some scum comes along and screws it up.

The base unit is a Zulex HD-212BT Dual din deck from Thailand, a sample model I have been changing the firmware on for release into the Australian market. There are very few in Australia that would have this deck, and NONE with the custom firmware and lighting in it that this one did.

If you come across this unit, Please PM me, it is able to be identified from the modified face plate (and inside, the flash ROM has my name, copyright details and firmware version coded into it)

Any info would be great on who has this unit, I not fussed with the unit itself, as my work is all backed up ready to go onto another unit, but I am interested in recovering the costs that I have to incur with my excess and bring these people who destroy months worth of work to the cops.

The blurred photo below (the only shots I took of the unit in the car) shows the setup, and the whole dual din dash was ripped out with the unit, so it may be presented with the A/C controls still attached

Sorry for the delay in pics, I was so pissed off I went out drinking. As you can see it is a very clean looking install (double din dash ordered from DMX). They took all the adaptors with it (main harness and antenna), and they are properly soldered and finished with pink heat shrink tubing. 100% plug and play.

Just out of interest, did you have an alarm installed?

damn that sucks. i guess we gotta be careful about where we park our cars still- something which can be overlooked as we become a bit complacent.

I didn't have an alarm in it. I was thinking it was safe enough in a security carpark but I was so wrong. For those of you that have aftermarket stereos in your FDs I would get an alarm that makes shitloads of noise, I'm going to get one installed and build an addon unit so that if the alarm goes off, it connects an old mobile phone and rings me. Easy enough to do with a Nokia 3310. Maybe even have the alarm silent and have it just ring so I can go down there and beat the f**k out of them.

so sorry to hear this,daburnz
but one quest, to dismantle the din dash, need to dismantle steering dash first, and also the din dash secured by 2 screws under. how can that thief take it off so easily ?
to anyone : buying stolen stuff is a crime !!!

they ripped the whole thing out by force. They pulled back the plastic shroud that sits over the speedo (ruining it, leaving the below pieces intact) put screwdrivers in to wedge it out (putting scratches on all the surrounding plastic) all the clips are screwed, and the assessor recommended that the whole dash be replaced. I'm guessing that the fascia is stuffed. I'm almost tempted to put everything back to stock. Loads of time, research and sourcing of parts went into this, and the amount of time to get back all the parts again and wire it all up is almost not worth it. the F***ers even cut all the tv and gps antenna running to the back. Be safe where you put your cars people.

daburnz... do you have any alarm? does the alarm from Honda even work when sum1 smash our window? also... can you claim this to the insurance? (e.g. just say your OEM was stolen?)

FD1 don't have alarm (is yours FD1, daburnz ?), and Vti-L+FD2 alarm is basic alarm, only works with door, not with shock/movement sensor

that sucks mate! it was probably the same mob who stripped out my mates ITR. it was an underground apartment carpark in concord, if its the same one then there is obviously an insider living there.. my mate got video evidence, showing a late 90's red civic as their getaway car. not to mention the is250 they also stole.

ask building managment if there are any cameras?

alarm is a must. if u have a nice head unit like that on show for everyone to see expect things like this to happen no matter where u park it.
it sucks hard but thats life.

believe in karma!

We should setup a sting for these @ssholes.

Park a car in the same garage and wait for them to strike. Then jump them and beat the living crap out of them.

We could also use paintball markers on them as well. ;)

Any other cars around you got broken into as well? If not, then could be someone known to you did this, they know exactly where your car is, what's inside and what to take,

I don't have an alarm in the car (now having a good one installed) Yes, my car is an FD1 with no factory alarm installed. Building management has no cameras, but the earfull I gave them about the security hole in the meshing has probably made them change their mind (they were lucky I didn't come after them for compensation because of this flaw). I am currently having it repaired and it is all under insurance, because I specified that I changed around the fascia. I am now having problems with insurance because I don't have receipts for the fascia or the wiring harnesses. make sure you tell your insurance EXACTLY what you put in, with all the little pieces or you may not be covered for everything.
