Ok, before I begin to install the Benen hook in the front, one question what is the preferred way in which to do this on an EK, any takers, cheers

Also, if you're in Brisbane and able to do this for me there's a carton of beer in it for you and lunch!

Just to add.

I would use metal holesaws rather than a Dremel but your choice. :)

:crosses fingers that the OP is taking his car to the track:.

As stated above, would also use a holesaw as the front bumper is pretty thick.

I'm using a dremel on it later this arvo, got the 40-piece bit kit as well, should be fun (thread pending, lol)

i already had holes in my front bumper support o0 and i just bolted it to that.. lol like the holes looked like they were there from factory so yeah maybe you have them too not sure.. but just check the side before u do any drilling lol

EK1.6LCIV
14-09-2008, 09:13 AM
lol, no way there should be factory holes, even if their were, it's still an shs panel and you have to do this to tighten them up/install it properly lol

all sorted now

Nice mate, I had a front hook as well. But couldn't really work out a good sturdy way of mounting it. So i sold it. That method looks like it should work well.

Good work

Nice one Ryan. That was the DIY I was looking at.That`s a big hole you made... it`s obviously right though.

Yes,I will tracking my car.I didn`t want to risk my front lip getting ripped off as it hangs low otherwise I wouldn`t put on a shin basher :)

Yep, they were fun to do as they needed holes drilled into them, insides shaved to suit and brakcets bent to fit up, otherwise bolt on lol

hey man, i have the same benon tow hooks on my DC2R... i went off at oran park and got bogged, they had to tow me out and it snapped my intrusion bar! so i re welded a thicker stronger bar and re-fitted the tow hook... so jut beware!

EK1.6LCIV

Yea we went to a bit of effort to ensure the proper installation, we should be fine, smallest holes made possible with high tensile steel bolts of better quality than in kit, to buffer it up a bit (fingers crossed I never need it mind you, lol)

tee hee.

does not surprise me. Guys seriously , if you must have these tow hooks for looks , still keep the other side as your OEM tow hook :)

DEMON83
17-09-2008, 09:41 PM
was it the front or back that snapped????

SHIFTY
17-09-2008, 11:17 PM
the front intrusion bar.. unlike civic, the integra r front intrusion bar is alot thinner (lighter) :(

it all good, didnt do any damage, just put a thicker stronger bar there!

The Rear tow hook attackes to the oem tow hook.

EK1.6LCIV
18-09-2008, 11:32 AM
thought so, I mean literally when I upload pics of my bar you will see that you have to really try and cut properly to break the oem civic bar, talked to a few race development shops in my area prior to doing this, upon taking part in this we checked that factor, had me worried

i wonder if these tow hooks are street legal?

was wondering if the coppas wouldnt like them because of sharp exposed edges. Like the problems you get with GT drift wings?

any info?

thebob
22-09-2008, 05:27 AM
IMO the back shouldnt be a problem just like a tow bar. The front will be where the problem lies, along with his canyards.

EK1.6LCIV
22-09-2008, 11:25 AM
yep, which is why theyre off the car atm, not looking to get fined anytime soon, so theyre only goin on when at the sprints... bolt on, bolt off easy as

bennjamin
22-09-2008, 11:44 AM
any protrusion past the OEM bodywork is illegal and dangerous....low/high speed pedestrian impact.

EK1.6LCIV
22-09-2008, 03:48 PM
Yea, not the finest thing to grace your backside in a collision imo, looks nice on the rear tho but both are off atm

Not for me,I got screws and bolts holding the front bumper in place after I re-alighned it and I got all my cold air ducting in thier which is a bitch to put back if taken out :(
Is there any other way to hook up the tow hook? say at the front above the grill, under the bonnet? I doubt it though...
Any other options here guys? another tow hook?
help :D

there is one other option but would involve you making a bracket to extend the tow hook off your factory one under the drivers side of the car, I thought about it but haven't had the time to make up anything

yea, were nuts I'll admit that :D, I'm a bit more tamed here as there is alot more police here than in my old city lol

beeza
30-09-2008, 11:46 AM
Oh yeah, have ya got a link for any info on the bracket,it sounds good.It would have to extend lower so it won't rip the front lip off.

We are nuts but don't tell anyone or they will want to copy us! :)

Your not kidding about the cops.Gold Coast is abundant with em'

EK1.6LCIV
30-09-2008, 11:53 AM
No link mate just me and some spare alum lying around and an idea, lol, like I said yanks are nuts :P

yea, I had one filling up his daily have a good look at my old front end with the canards on and hook and race numbers lol, he was like wtf, lol

did goldy with mine the other day, guess with the car being so dark in colour they didn't see the canards, lol, good thing they bolt on and off easily :)

would love to make up a version of a bys in the future for it

Ah,your a yankee doodle dandy :)

On weekends cops are EVERYWHERE here.

OK cool,if I do a DIY I guess CAMS at the track may not allow it though...

EK1.6LCIV
30-09-2008, 12:09 PM
sparco is the ones people use on the track, theyre like $25 from most race shops and red, it's the inside diameter they want and decent construction. These will be fine, but I think they need to be red/orange tho

beeza
30-09-2008, 12:18 PM
Thanks Ryan ya crazy Yank :) I'll check that one out.A DIY sounds risky for the track officials...

30-09-2008, 12:26 PM
There are plenty of DIY tow hooks out there in CAMS events. You don't need a bling branded one. Just as long as its strong enough to tow the car out.

I've also seen tow straps on some race cars

beeza
30-09-2008, 12:31 PM
Thanks mate.So CAMS aren't so strict on it.I'll have to rig up a DIY one if that's the case.DIY ftw!!
