im looking to buy a stock VTI-R

When it reved i didnt hear any change in the engine what so ever.
Sure it still went kinda hard as any car you rev hard.

How can i be sure the VTEC is kicking in?
I cant hear it and im not sure if i can here it.....

Ive got exhaust ready to put on it, but im scared when i do put it on it will reveal the car is not VTECing or somthing....

thus buying a car that has a problem...

( sorry for not searching 1st, ill do that now. i just wanted to know fresh opions)

Get a pod filter, should "release" the vtec sound more clearer.

Should feel like three turbos just came on at once. The skin on your face will be like pulled back and the g-forces will make it difficult to blink.

Sorry...playing. You should definitely feel your engine become livelier when you've passed 5000rpm though.

have you tried yelling "Y00000!" ?

If you're comparing it to the B16A (EK4,EM1) or DC2R VTEC x-over,it isnt as loud as they are because of your dual-stage IM. The ones mentioned above only use a single runner IM,hence you can hear them "VTEC" better.

The VTEC x-over for the DC2 VTiR comes on before 5000rpm,then the secondary IM opens before 6000rpm,so you should feel it pulling harder from 6000rpm onwards

If you want to hear it working, take off the top cover of the airbox,go for a spin, & you'll hear a faint click before 5000rpm,then you'll hear it sucking harder at 6000rpm & above. :)

As spoon sirg stated just remove the cover and try it.

Also it wont hit vtec in neutral either (second stage)

Cars don't vtec in neutral.

you should be able to hear a slight crossover, ive been in a vtir teggy and you can feel the crossover.

Maybe a problem with the vtec solonoid..

Did you make sure that the car temp was warm enough for the oil so you can hit vtec??

V-tec wont "kick in" unless car or oil is at a reasonable temperature......

Stock Exhaust + SRI Intake, will hear it better

I rev my sister's Honda Civic's and my Dad's Euro... they are still slow LOL.

If you are revving it when there is no load on the engine, it won't VTAK - due to oil pressure. The change over is VTi-R's isn't so noticable, but you should be able to feel the engine become more alive.

Perhaps your VTEC fell off. Also, as above, try yelling "yO!" at around 5500RPM, it usually edges on the VTEC - and people can NV DA VTEC.

ROFL at the comments about yelling "Y00"

DO you mean, reving it in neutral? or thrashing it?

While trashing it, you should be able to feel/hear it.

most cases its a cold engine + no CAI or SRI

vtir vtec is good with stock exhaust and a desent intake system, just make sure u let the car warm up for a good 20mins before trying it from a cold start... or u will get this shitty buzzing noise instead which is ur car telling ur a noob =p
