Hi, this is my first post :p i've been reading on the forums and i'm just doing some research.

I went to get a quote on a sound system, just wondering if its a good price or should i look more into it and also if the products are good. I'm still a noob at car sound systems.

Sound Stream R1-15L Sub
Tarantula 1000W Mono Channel Amp (he didn't give which model)
Tarantula LW4.620 4 Channel Amp
Focal Splits (k2s) (didn't give model)
Focal Coaxials (didn't give model)
Alpine IVA-W502E

All above + installation + wiring + sound deadening on doors + what is needed

Total $6000
+$1000 if i want a nice custom built case, lights n stuff just to make it look good

I searched around for prices online and got to about 4.5k but that is without installation and delivery to the door and just picked mid range prices for the Focal speakers because i don't know what model.

Thanks in advance

Have you actually listened to any of those products?

The sound that is reproduced from different speakers can vary vastly between models let alone manufacturers. If you're just going by what people are recommending then I suggest you go to a car audio store and have a listen to different speakers and subs, you might not even like the sound that the Focal's produced.

Have you also considered a new battery? A good one can easily add a few hundred to the bill. Be cautious of buying online, there are a tonne of fakes floating around especially on Ebay. Feedback is isn't always the best indicator as i remember a seller with about 10000+ positive feedback who happened to get shutdown due to selling fakes.

If you're going to be spending a substantial amount of money then take it to a shop with good reputation such as FHRX Studios or Precision Car Audio Engineering. You can demo various speakers and subs n find out which will suit you best.

Even if you are a noob, you should listen to speakers before you buy. Your noob ears will still tell you what you like and what you dont.

So do yourself a favour and listen to some speakers in your price range at fhrx or any other decent car audio place. You will come out with a better end result for yourself and learn a thing or two

the shop (alberts) doesn't stock the products in store so i can't listen to them. I'm in Perth and i don't think any shops has Focals on display (not that i know of). I could maybe get them to try and see if owners could drive their car to the shop so i can listen.
or if anyone can recommend any shops in perth that i should go to before i make my final decision that would b appreciated

I have heard the sound steam setup as they have that in their demo car. Its average.

i don't really buy from ebay. in my opinion i dislike ebay or online shops even if you can get cheap products or whatever. I only use online stores to give me a rough idea of the prices of the products and see if i can bargain them down in store or if they are ripping me off. i rather pay more and buy from a shop where i can see the product in hand.
I'm just wondering if i do like the products is sound system really worth $6000 or they are charging me an arm and a leg.

my bad, i didnt see that you are from perth.

i guess you can only do soo much in trying to listen to speakers. if its not possible to listen to wide range, go for quality gear and also your instinct of the installer giving you advise.

Well installed/tuned average gear will sound much better than expensensive but poorly installed gear.

Also log onto to www.mobileelectronics.com.au, you'll have much better luck in finding qualified opinions than on ozhonda, although few members cross over both forums.

Rahul, not taking anything away from mea, but whats the difference between here and there? i'll give you one guess... NOTHING...

both places have lots of posters who think they know something but in reality know very little at all and only repeat what they have read or are told without question. maybe they should all be called parrots... sound familiar?

they recommend brands they know little or nothing about nor have they had any personal experience with. almost like saying SEEN ON TV, but wait theres more...

most of you act like lemmings, play follow the leader, for what? do you actually learn anything? i doubt it, show me what you have learned over the years? how many cars have you done installations on that took out top honours at an SQ comp judged by certified judges? cant, well... :p

want qualified opinions, visit carsound.com there arent many big names left (yes they grow up too and have other things to do) but im sure if you want to ask the right question, you'll get the right answer from a qualified person in the industry. i mean that is what the industry is for isnt it or is anyone these days qualified to give opinions? LOL!

ozhonda is a decicated car (performance biased) forum with audio subsection and MEA being mobile electronis forum with other subsections.

With out getting into the merits of each, MEA is merely another avenue and probably a better one in this instance for the thread starter to research as he/she already stated the difficuilty to audition speakers in perth.

I for one certainly learnt a fair bit from both the forms in regards to car audio and cars.

You are right in many ppl just saying "i concur" without knowing. that's not just on online forums, but in real life too, human nature i guess.

Anyway.. back on the topic...

hey liquid, not tryna put you down or anything but do your ears WARRANT a system worth that much?? you say you're noob at car audio, thats means you would probably be just as happy with a system half the price.. any more and its just a waste of money. its nice to know you're willing to spend that much alone for gear but are you really going to appreciate the quality?? or are you going to waste it by playing mp3 cds??

with a budget of $6000+ id buy different gear but thats me, i have my own tastes and im definately not saying whether your system is good or not, without actually hearing it in person. the only one who can say whether its good or not is YOURSELF.. if you like it and it pleases your ears then its good, if not then thats bad. +1 with 'audition before you buy'.

ok i re-read it, budget is closer to 4k. id expect mid-range quality, do you??

hi, thx for the advices.

I'm going to call up the place and ask the manager if he could call up the guy that had around the same setup as what he suggested to me. Then i could here what it sounds like and if possible the cars that are being worked on.

I guess i wouldn't appreciate it as much as an audiophile would. I didn't know what products i was looking for just search up that MB quarts, Boston, Focal and other brands had a high rep in SQ.
I just gave them my budget of 5k w/o the HU and that is what they came up with. Then he started talking about getting my car in INCAR magazine =/  ? because i said i was modding with carbon fiber and alot of other mods. I think its just a marketing that sales people use or whatever.

Arverson: just curious what would you buy with 5k w/o HU? what would our setup consist of? just want to get a range of products so i can ask them if they have it and listen to it
