I'm going on holidays soon, going to do a far bit of driving. In the unlikely situation I can't get 95RON or 98RON and have to use unleaded, is it safe to use octane booster to bring it up to 95 atleast?

Mine is a 05 Auto Euro. Have never used the stuff and would only use it if I had no other option but to use unleaded.

*Did a search but old threads.

I had to do that when I drove from Hedland to perth ~1700kms.

Most places have 95 at least now days.

Get hold of some toluine (paint thinners) and take some of that with you.
Cheap, and works wonders. Google it.....

Octane booster is NOT good for your engine. Which area are you going to? If you are really worried, fill up with 98 RON, full tank. Then when you reach 1/2 tank and still can't find 95RON, then fill up the half tank with 91RON. The result should be close to 95RON. Basically, whenever you can find 98 RON, fill it up. But I have been to remote towns and they still had 95 RON. Only the tiny villages don't have 95 RON.

Carrying toulene in the car for a long trip... hmmm.... not fun. I wouldn't worry too much. I could find 95 RON everywhere as every small town has a retail petrol station now (shell, caltex, mobil), as they have shut out the privately run petrol stations.

In worst case, I reckon you could just use e10 or even normal ULP. I saw someone the otherday put normal ULP into his euro! Crazy.

It can wear out seals if used regularly, and also fouls the spark plugs.

Thanks for the replies, just to QLD from the Hunter. Not far, Im sure there will be plenty of 98 on the way, so won't have any trouble. Was curious, as a few months ago all the servo's where I live didn't have any 98 or 95. For a week or so. Saw some lady put 91 in her Euro :S.

Hunter Valley has 98 RON in Pokolbin. I wouldn't be that worried.

Every major town from the Hunter to Queensland has servos with 98. Fill up at Coffs Harbour/Glen Innes/Moree (depending on which highway you take.)

I've heard about fouling plugs, but i never knew the seals wear too!

What about Nulon Petrol Injector cleaner & Nulon Total Fuel system cleaner?

I'm sure these products work, but do they foul plugs and wear seals too?

I haven't had much experience with the injector cleaner and fuel cleaner, but I did experience it with my gf's Astra that gets a dose of injector cleaner each service because they want to rip her off. After 3 years of ownership, an injector clogged up! So I don't have faith in these products.
