View Full Version : Does this increase caster?

Have been interested in increasing caster (castor?) on my 2nd gen CRX from the stock 3 degrees to more like 5 degrees to improve turn in on track.
I am aware some people shorten the caster rods by redrilling but this can cause damage to axles when wheel is moved forward.
The latest I have read is to swap the upper control arms from one side of the car to the other side. Guess the upper ball joint is not exactly centre of the bracket for this to work.
Has anyone done this, does it work?
How much more caster do you end up with?
Any thoughts?

Not sure if the CRX has the same setup

Actually did a search before my post and found that one.
There are some posts on the US sites which claim that fix can damage axles.
I was hoping the upper control arm swap might not cause the damage but possibly give the same caster result.

Just checked upper arms and they are already positioned for maximum caster - so no joy there.

So have just removed caster rods and shortened 10mm by grinding back the shoulder for the sleeve with the rubbers, then added a few washers at the nut.
By my estimation this has increased caster from 3 degrees to 5 degrees.
The handling of the car is very much improved, quite noticeable.
This must be my most cost effective performance enhancement yet.
