Has anyone tried this tyre? I heard it has similar thread to Neova.
Does this tyre have good road noise compared to other semis??
Haven't used this tyre, but am currently using the Ventus V8 RS - a more street tyre, less noisy then the high end performance ones like the R-S2. All i can say is when i switched to these Hankook tyres (from BS GIII, Eagle F1s) with the silica technology, i felt these were amazing... great grip, and vastly improved handling. i found my turn ins were sharper and had less oversteer.
I'd highly recommend these silica Hankook tyres...

there r quite grip if compare with normal performance street tyres.
but it also wear easily due to the compound.
A good street-use tyre.

It has a similar tread design to the Neova but, not tyre compound,
nor tyre construction.
> Does this tyre have good road noise compared to other semis??
It's definitely not a semi-slick tyre.
It's probably a notch below the AD07 neova in terms of performance.
> A good street-use tyre.
Agreed. Especially for the price.
Kumho MX and Falken Azenis 615s would be similar-ish.
One time I tried to find a set of these and had no luck.
I'm not sure availability is the best.

IMHO, Goodyear G3's were a great wet tyre, ok dry tire.
I don't know why they get such a good wrap.
x2 given the German/Thailand source debacle.
Nick.
PS. I haven't tried these tyres and opinions reflect inet reviews.
I think grassroots motoring, in particular.

nd55: hmm, I was told these were Semi-slicks. Its half the price of the Neovas as well.
EK9: I'm using RE001 for my ctr and its definitely something I'd buy again. Wet grip is amazing as dry for the street ofcourse... I've tried Eagle F1 and thought wet was good too, quite a predictable tyre.
I'm choosing between RE001 and RS2 for my ITRs... but I think I'll lean towards the RE001 for comfort and street use.
Is there another alternative to RE001?

If it has a similar tread pattern to Neova, then they are definitely not semi slicks.

My picks...
There is the expensive:
Bridgestone RE001
Hankook Ventus RS2
Kumho MX
Dunlop Direzza Sport Z1 Star Spec
Falken RT615
and the really expensive.
Yokohama Advan AD07
Bridgestone RE-01R
Before you get hyped up about a particular brand/model remember, the size you want is never made in the tyre you like.
and
The more expensive the tyre the shorter it lives.
sigh.... it's a cruel world.

I run the new Ventus V12's and they are AWESOME.
Took em for a trip around Wakefield on a slippery wet day (in my 200 sx) and LOVE THEM!
On the street are awesome as well, great grip wet and dry!
Sorry slightly OT but i had to give a mention. Also not cheap either.. Looking at $380 per tyre!!

To clarify this is not a semi slick tyre. It is, however, an excellent tyre at an excellent price. Currently I'd have to say it is definitely THE BEST VALUE high performance road tyre. Great performance, great price, good wear characteristics.
We've used them in a number of different sizes (mostly 17 and 18inch though) to good effect on the street. Looks good too.
If you're in Melbourne and want some, I would call Mag Wheel and Tyre in Preston for a good price.

What is High Grip Silica Compound(HGSC)? Apparently used first on the R-S2.
STiR: So if this isn't a semi slick, then how is the road noise rated compared to BS RE001?

Oh I rang up 1 random place and it was about 180-200 fitted for 16" and 17".
Road noise is like a regular high performance tyre, not very loud. I've also got a set of Bridgestone RE01R tyres which are their best tyre, and they are similar in performance to the RS2. Either way RE001 or RS2 you can't go wrong.
> What is High Grip Silica Compound
Tyre rubber typically has a significant portion of fillers to add strength and increase durability. Carbon in particular.
ie, the rubber itself has stuff added to it make it better.
This is separate to the belts and cords used used in a typical tyre construction
In the last 10 years, the technology has come about to add silica to the rubber. This allows a softer rubber to last longer.
Manufacturers give it all sorts of fancy names to distinguish it over non-silica tyres.
Many newer release high perf street tyres will have this nowdays - correct me if I'm wrong.

Thanks guys! They do look pretty nice
I might test out a set since I have 3 cars... I'll compare it to RE001.

I've also been using the Ventus V8 RS Tires and have been very happy with them.
Mine are coming to the end of their life and I'm considering buying another set. the V12 EVO are more of a wet weather tire than the V8 which are rated as a "all season"

I don't think you'll be disappointed.

Ok guys, I ended up opting for the RE001.
I asked the Hankook Dealer how they are with road noise. And the guy said 'nope, they are made to just grip, grip and grip'. Not good with road noise.
Even though these were cheaper and better performing than the RE001, it wasn't what I wanted.
So I guess I'll have to leave the review to someone else :)
Speaking of road noise, my falken azenis RT615 is prett noisy at around 60-70km. Maybe i need to put carpet in?
