Hi guys,

I was looking at these car classifieds from tradecarview.com. Was wondering why the DC5R's are so cheap ($10,000-$15,000) with such low KMs as well. Freight costs approx $1500 AUD.

Was wondering what's the catch? Are these half cuts? Existing damage? Anyone dealt with these guys before? Local DC5Rs are going for at least 24k for 80,000+km.

These are cheap, but unless you can go and live with the car for 1 year, dont think about it, our laws will stop you from importing as that model was already sold here. Even if you bring it in for racing, you will need a cams licence and it wont ever be able to be registered

No problems, yeah, i cried when i saw a JDM Civic Type R FD2 for sale when i was in Hong Kong a few weeks ago, it was about $38000, theres a lot of EP3's coming from there now too, I am trying to get one of my wife's friends to buy one before they move to Australia, that way I can put the car in their container of household stuff :) would end up with an EP3 for cheaper than a DC2 Type R, so yeah, unless you can get someone to live with it, it wont happen. This also applies to pretty much ANY Honda, which is a shame seeing how many pretend Nissan Skylines are around here (GTT etc) if there were that many Hondas imported, then the price would drop and we could all have one :) I have also heard that if you try and bring something in without permission, it can be crushed, or has to be returned to the country it came from!

My cousin went to Japan for student exchange for 1 year+. She's since come back. Can i now get her to legally import the vehicle?

nope. you have to have owned the car for over 1 year while in the country and also prove you've used it (rego, permits, services).

so yeah, unless you're living there or someone else is, no point pondering.

Thanks for all your prompt responses. I'll just have to fork out the extra 10k

other cost that you have to consider are import duty, AQIS fee etc.

If you go for the EP3, then you won't have import problems since it is in the SEVS register and has also been ADR complied.
