At the end of the year, I'm planning to buy my first car. At the moment, I am considering a brand new Civic, brand new Mazda 3, 2nd hand Euro Accord or a 2nd hand Mazda 6. I'm leaning towards the Hondas though..!

Anyways, I was wondering how much did you guys pay for your 100,000 Kms service for your Euro Accord? It would be nice to know so I can factor this amount into the final price!

Cheers.

both the mazda 6 and the euro is chain driven so if you are talking about timing belt changes ... there is only a drive belt that need changing for the speical 100ks service other than the usual fluid change... but plugs are both plat. so slightly more exp but you have to only change them once every 100ks... i had both the cars changed from the mazda 6 to the euro...

mazda6 = more torqy drive ( if you were to rev the mazda 6 to 2300-2500rpm and allow the auto to change the gears you would easily reach maybe 60-70 quicker compared to the euro... the euro revs to maybe 2600-3000 to get decent torque or else it feels like its struggling especially when it goes to 5th gear/Auto when you are doing 70 and u need power. it then struggles for a while till maybe 55 and drops 2 gears to 3 to rev the car up.... ) , sportier looking, BUT noisy drive esp. hatch
honda euro= more refined, quieter ( but not really the camry/aurion/new civic quietness) and Smooth..., BUT replacement parts are more expensive ( not parts like oil filter and air filter BUT parts that you dont change everyday like door actuator, a simple bulb...)

Overall i think it depends what are you doing with the car... used to drive the mazda 6 to uni and it was a "cool" car to have... and when i went into the working society, the euro was the better choice as it is more refined and it looked more mature but still it can be converted to a decent driving machine if u push it a little... REVs to 7000rpm (Vtec) compared to mazda which max out at i am not very sure but i think its 6000 or 6500...

* Dont get the mazda 3 if u can afford the 6 or the euro... definately torque but when its on the highway doing 110, its like a tractor cause its revving at around 3000rpm... OH!!! euro revs at 2000rpm on highway at 100... so if u are travelling much on highways get the euro. mazda 6 revs at 2500rpm

think the new civic is a good car.. never driven one but sat in a mates one and he is very happy with it... but no luxury stuff that a euro can give or a mazda 6 can offer...

huhjared, thank you for your insight! Good to hear from someone who has owned both cars.

The only reason I'm considering the 6 is because its generally a cheaper car to buy (looking at carsales) about 3-4k cheaper. But I'm getting the impression that the Euro is a better buy, despite the 3-4k difference =). The engine and the ride refinement are definately major pros for the Euro.

Finally, (if you don't mind me asking) would you remember how much you paid for the 100,000 km services for both the Euro and the Mazda 6? I'm happy for you to PM me if you don't wanna disclose this information publicly!

the civic is not to be over looked reasonably sized and spacious, great fuel economy. and you cant beat new. i guess it all comes down to what your looking for in a car.

My euro has only done 70ks but the mazda 6 did 110ks... the "major" servicing done at a mechanic for the mazda 6 was around 700 if i am not wrong... i paid $1500 all up including 4 new tyres... oh and tyres on both the cars are expensive... 205/55R16...

i would personally go either the euro or the civic...*Dont really like the shape of the civic, its abit out of proportion but it might be just me... from a friend who designs stuff he said that the length of the front doors should always be almost the same as the length of the front bonnet to be proportion. after "measuring" some cars it seems to be true...

^^ Thanks for the info once again, huhjared! Yeah, I seem to have a love/hate relationship with the new civic. From some angles, it looks odd. But from other angles, it looks pretty good. And as Euro08Jaz mentioned, you can't beat brand new or its 6.9L/100km fuel economy!

I'm looking at the Luxury version of the Euro, and its seriously loaded. There's not much it doesn't come with to be honest. Its a more classy car vs. the civic. So I guess if I can't find a Luxury Euro for a price I want, then I'll just go with the backup option and buy a new civic!

I know there are probably 100's of things you love about the Euro. Is there anything you hate/don't like? LOL

How many K's the accord you're looking at have got currently?

2 main things...

no.1 on my list the car is not quiet... its not very noisy but its definitely not quiet..
no.2 i think it needs alot more low end power/torque... it makes me wonder why do i have to rev the car to almost 3000rpm to get a decent drive... and when u hit 3000 it also means more petrol usuage...

TapRis, I'm looking at a few. One of them has 106,000 km, the other about 112,000 km and one more at around 96,000 km. I'm aiming at about $18k for a luxury version that has had it's 100,000 km service with no other faults on the car. Is that a fair estimate?

The lack of low-down torque is a Vtec characteristic, correct me if I'm wrong. The engine has a lack of torque at the lower rpms for the sake of economy (Which is fine, as long as this car isn't a slug beyond 3000 rpm). In terms of quietness/refinement, it doesn't have to be deathly quiet like a $200k Lexus LOL. Road noise just doesn't have to be intrusive. Like for example, you can still have a normal conversation with your passengers, cruising at 100kmh.

The new Civic is a good little car. We purchased a Euro and Civic at the same time. The Civic is certainly smooth and quiet. Not a bad sound system, runs on RON 91 and great fuel economy.
Of course not the same amount of luxury items and not as powerful. But great car overall.

Unity, Thanks for your impressions regarding the Civic! Did you purchase the 7th or 8th gen Euro Accord? What were your impressions on that one?

I purchased a 2007 Euro during the mid-year run out sales.
I am generally happy with the car. I was expecting it to be a little quieter and a little smoother, however, seem to be getting used to how the car performs and feels on the road. I am now begining to enjoy the car just as it is and would choose this over the Civic.

Thanks Unity for your input. Much appreciated!

Oh wow PNR888, $427.20 looks cheap. Were the timing belts changed too? Thanks for your input as well!

No timing belt on Euro engine. It is chain driven.

^^ LOL sorry, I must have overlooked that. I think someone else has previously mentioned that it is chain driven! My bad!

EDIT: Timing belts tend to be changed at around 100,000 kms. Since the Euro is chain driven, how does the maintainance differ vs. timing belts? Like for example, does it tend to be changed earlier or later than 100,000 kms?

In theory it never needs to be changed but i suppose on high km engines it may need to be changed eventually.

did your 80k service cost ard 500+? Coz i just did mine at 70k. They told me that the 80k is the most exp ard 500 coz they need to change the drive belt i think..is this true..i thought that like what you guys said it was 100k.
but i check the manual it does not state any belt change.

no 80k service does not include any belt changes.

80k includes oil, oil filter, air filter, fuel filter. i think that was it.

oh and i would recommend getting your tanny oil changed too on your 80k service.

from my understanding from a mate working at honda.. he said that honda makes the intervals of 40ks exp to ease out the shocking 4 digit service... so a 40ks 80ks 120ks 160ks servicing would be expensive...
