View Full Version : importing EP3
hi, i need some advise from u guys...... do you guys think its better to import ep3 through the net or some agents in here??? I'm so confuse now.
there is a website offer me a 05 ep3 JDM+ c package(no repaired history) from 1,550,000 Yen* and 1,750,000 Yen* FOB (price before shipping). and i know its about the right price which sell in japan 2.
so is it better to buy from the net or agent??? because there is no test drive for both....... which way is better???
and what are the difference between that???
e.g lower cost from net than the agent???

*edit* exactly what Chris said below this is spot on. I went through Blacksun Imports. They have imported mine and now 3 others i think so know the ep3 process inside out and will take care of you. if you want more details on them pm me and i will put you in contact with the right guy as well.

You're best off hiring an Australian broker man. It will save you a lot of headaches and they know the compliance process in and out. An agent willl charge a fee (usually around the 1k mark) and they will sort everything out for you; from finding the right car, to getting it cleared for import and even helping you choose a workshop to have it complied at.
They are able to keep an eye on the auctions for you and find a car that meets your specifications as well as have their contacts inspect the car etc.
I personally recommend Kristian of Iron Chef Imports. http://www.ironchefimports.com/site/
Many people will vouch for him, great customer service! Drop him an email and he'll help you find an EP3 and give you a estimate on the landed and complied price.
Goodluck buddy.

you won't get a face lift for 25K landed....would have been very very tough to get a good cond one before the yen dipped but with it at what it is now it would be impossible.
I looked at pre-face lift when i bought but then decided to spend the extra as i wanted a newer car etc with update and projector lights etc and the common issues sorted out(2nd gear, steering rack etc) and to save up for mods later.
it depends on what you are after in the car?

it was a choice between IMG and Blacksun Imports for me and I went with Blacksun as a broker but got IMG to comply the car, they are great from my dealings with them. They said it was the cleanest ep3 they had seen yet so that was good enough for me to be happy with Blacksun's work :)

Im doing my import with blacksun as well, car is in brisbane at the moment (or maybe even on the way to perth), so far I'm happy with everything, $25K for 05 very hard mate, you can try but I don't think it's possible, you'll be better of getting 02-03 that's in very good condition than 04-05 that's not for more $$$$, for good example of 04-05 you'll be looking around $30K+

price in japan should have dropped but becos of our crap exchange rate now, it's hard to get a 05 for under 30k. maybe a 04 with higher kays.
definitely get an agent to sort you out. a lot less headache. (particularly with their connections)

Ive got a fl ep3 coming over at the moment. I used IMG and I cant recommend them enough ah, easy going guys and quick on any responses to questions updates re the cars progress etc.
The advice given already about pricing is pretty accurate from my experience aswell - for 25k the smart choice is an 02/03 with less than 40,000 kms.
Good luck mate.

How accurate are those mileage on the car?
It seems that every car they have are around the 40k range.

Thats a fair question and truthfully - how long is a piece of string :p
It really comes down to whether the one you want is in good condition or not, and you can only really tell by seeing it in person. Some agents will find you a car and bring it over, and then after you have inspected it and given it a test drive, you can then decide if you want to buy it or not. If not then you take your holding deposit back and walk away. They dont care, they will just sell it to someone else anyway, which means they have to bring over good quality cars in the first place - at least giving you a lil peace of mind ;)

As long as the car is in good condition, who cares the mileage is accurate or not. Mine one (02 model) was around 38k on the clock when the time i picked it up. :zip:

they have been known to be off as well though. that's why i went with Blacksun, they get the car inspected in Japan after buying it at auction to see everything is as it should be and if it isn't they fling it back to the auction place.

IMG does the same. They also let you opt out once the car arrives in aus and also after youve had a proper inspection done on it yourself. Like I said above, its in their best interests to bring over a quality car to be sure you buy it.

one more thing to consider if u plan to import yourself:
never buy a car in japan before you find a RAW who agreed to apply import approval and comply your car.
many RAW don't comply other people's cars. (ie. they only comply cars they bought in japan themself). only RAW can apply import approval for SEVS cars.
if no one will comply for you, your only option is to sell the car in japan.
this is what i got from an agent in japan!!
"""Many thanks for your request for an estimate.
Based on recent auction data, you would be able to buy a High Grade Moderate Kms 2005 Civic type r ep3 in Japan for between 1,550,000 Yen* and 1,750,000 Yen* FOB (price before shipping). To get a ballpark on-road figure, including shipping, import duty, gst, and compliance, please use the online calculator:"""

i dunno if this is true or not but it really looks ok for me!!! and the price is damn cheap!!

Hi mate. Like others have said, use an agent and it is probably the best $1,000 you can spend. The risk of not using an agent is just not worth it. Even if you don't get ripped off by going it alone, an agent will save your time and money by managing your whole purchase. I am currently using Iron Chef Imports to get my EP3. If you want more info, head over to the Skyline AU forum - they have a whole section dedicated importing. Lots of really good info there.

x000, ask the agent what he means by high grade? everyone has different standards and maybe even ask them to send you a couple of cars that have gone through auctions recently that would be like what they would get for you.

my definition of "high grade" is 4.5 A at the very least lol.

Mileage determine the actual age of the car, why do you not care about it?

So I take it that you don't mind paying the price for a car with 38k, which in fact might had done 100k. Good on you, car sellers love customers like you.

i have asked them, and they said at least grade 4 or above!!!
is it good deal???

it could be, best thing to do is to speak to a few broker's and see who you feel most comfortable with and confident of and go with them.
i told my broker that i only wanted a car that was grade 4.5 and above and that's what they got so it comes down to how fussy you are and your budget. If it was me i would be going with a broker who has imported a few ep3's before as they will know the process inside out.
