im thinking of getting new speakers front and rear and a new head unit. no subs but am wanting good bass. a friends car has some really good bass coming out of the back.cant see the speakers they're strangely hidden inside the parcel shelf 0.o
im not too sure if they actually produce words when the songs playing for exmaple, more so just the bass? is that possible?
anyway just wondering what kind of setup i could get if im wanting good bass with just speakers front and rear and a head unit, are there types of subs that are speaker sized and can replace the rears for exmaple?
any help much appreciated =D

i think a good set of 6x9 alpine type r rears would give u some fair bass...providing you run them off an amp and just some 6-6.5inh front splits off the amp as well...front will give u sharp sound with rears providing some bass.

there are 6 and 8 inch subs
i know jl audio and focal used to make them
though i think it might need a small box which you could leave on parcel shelf etc

Everycar is different.
Some cars make a lot of bass and some cars don't! With the same products.

whatever you do.... add sound deadening to the front doors. STINGER door kits work a treat!!!
THe more the merrier!!
6x9's do help though....

that is a tough question mate,
Depends on budget, and preference for sound quality

I agree with danyboi, it is do able to get good bass from speakers, but it depends on how much you want to spend in order to achieve it.
The requirements if you want to get good bass from your front splits are
1. Get splits (mainly midbass) that can run on quite low freq (around 50 Hz) Eg, Crescendo Opus 8.6
2. Sound Deadened the doors, the more you do the better you will get, eg dynamat extreme or similar
3. Use diffuser at the back of the midbass to diffuse backwave from the midbass, hence you will get cleaner and more concentrated midbass, eg Crescendo diffuser
hope this helps

Where can you buy sound deadening cheap?

if you get 6x9s, maybe have em installed in a enclosure if you can. it wont match the output & efficiency of a sub, but itll be better than free-air.
enclosure pretty much applies to any speakers too.
and theres a differences between mid-bass & sub-bass.. dont confuse the two :)

sound deadening is never cheap, But is a good investment none the less.
Ababg is defenatly on the ball... get some good splits for the front,
and some decent 6/9 in a box in the rear, and you should get a decent sounding system.
But that being said a decent set of splits to me is RRP 500++
So depends on your budget, if you post one, maybe we can make some recomendations on brands, and models for you

for the front doors, get Dynamat Extreme. a door kit is about 70-90 bucks, and is enough to do both the outer and ineers kins on both doors
get a decent set of front splits. up around $300, and an amp to run them, and the rears (spend 550 or so)
for teh rear, get some 6x9s and run them off an amp as well (simply get a 4channel to run front and rears off the same amp). low pass the 6x9s at about 100Hz so they only play low midbass and subbass
and try to make an enclosure for the 6x9s, youll get good sound out of it

split system running off 2 channel amp,
2 69's off a 1 channel amp as well
a head unit also to get the maximum power output

6x9s of a 1 channel amp?
they arent subs. keep the monoblocks to subs imo
and yes, get a headunit with tuning options so that you can tune crossover points/EQ etc

Cheers Trism.I want to do it but I don't want to add the weight to the car too :)

doesnt add much weight
an amp weighs all of 5 kilos, and a pair of 6x9s about 2
not much at all

ahh. even sound deadening isnt that bad
a layer on the inner and outer door skins on the front doors prob adds about 3kg, if that

Thanks Trism.Do U stick it on the actual door, the metal part or on the door trim?
trism

the actual door is metal :P
you put it on both the outerskin, and the inner skin
so the part thru all teh holes. and the inner part, that every bolts too

Sound Deadening makes a big difference. Highly recommend this upgrade when building a system.
