buy a press and diy, presses range from 150ish for 12 tonne to 250ish for about a 20tonne

$60-80 including or excluding the wheel bearing?
do they need to unbolt the knuckle off the car or are you gonna take the whole assembly to them?

sorry shouldve said:

$60-80 just to press in-out bearings.

i said i bring the hubs and bearings myself and they were like "yeap, thats abt [insert price above] per side"

"you're looking at 2hrs of work so that would be $160 in total plus gst"

how come i was under the impression pressing in-out bearings was like $20-30 per side
lol wth.

2 hours of work? it's like a 5 minute job to press out the bearing with the appropriate equipment
i'm sure they're charging you to take out the knuckle too

otherwise they just don't want your business

hydraulic press or shop press

my 12t press was able to push mine out without a problem
with that amount of time that they quoted for the work, i'm sure they're quoting you the time to take out the entire knuckle and reinstall it

that aimed at me?

lol no man, you've helped me before with the bushing diy thing vincent so its not to you

should i buy the press for 180 delivered or just go to one of these shops that says can do it in 1 hr labour $77

hmm... damn

oh right :p

well i bought my press for about $180 shipped
may or may have cost less if i did it at a shop but i couldn't afford to have time off the road to do my bushings and stuff(that and i'm a lazy ass and like to work at my own pace)

guess you just need to make it clear that all the work you need done is pressing the hub out, bearing out, and new ones in and you'll reinstall it on your car yourself

yea i did make it clear to them, "just to press in-out bearings, i'll bring my parts to you"

meh.. such a ripper.

depends man, do you intend on doing all your bushings too?
if you do then get the press
if you're changing your bearings because they're noisy and you don't want to do any other work, then just get someone else to do it for you

only bought mine because i'd be doing all the work myself

Same thing happened to me.
I called a few places as i needed 2 new ball joints pressed out and in the lower arms of a car. I had the arms off and the ball joints ready to go. I press bushings in and out of arms at work quiet ofter. As long as you have the appropriate pieces to press with it is a simple 5 min job.

One place quoted in excess of $100 and i told him no way, i can almost buy a press and do it myself.

Finally found a place who did it for $40 for both arms.

Hopefully i'll be getting a press soon.
