rev till 1.5k. then release the clutch at the same time pushing the gas pedal further.

You can slip the clutch or dump the clutch. Slipping will wear the clutch, while dumping risks damage to the gearbox.

what do you mean by slip and dump aaronng? the one i posted above, how do you call that? is that proper? that's what i always do..

- Transition your engagment point
(accelerating + releasing clutch pedal also you can give more throttle or less depending on what style driving your wanting but start slowly until you get the hang of things)
- Until the car pulls and release the clutch within a second so you don't ride on it, adjust this method depending on uphill + downhill elevation of the road.
Uphill = requires more ride and revs (utilise hill starts).
Downhill = free roll.
Hope this helps your journey with a stick! =P

Slipping the clutch is like you release the clutch up slowly till friction point and slightly beyond...The best launch can be achieved using this method , since dumping the clutch will cause wheel spin and lost of traction effecting the launch.
Dumping the clutch is just like you release the clutch straight, with out releasing it slowly.
IMO, the best launch is slipping the clutch, at about 3k revs and as u release the clutch, accelerate hard.?
No proper way to launch, just experiment, and find what works for you, your clutch and your car.

just do it.. best way to learn is to trash ur own car..
just do it and pay the consequences after.. u can only get TIPS here..
then putting ur foot down is another thing.
i learnt in a 88' camry.. that camry didnt last too long.. was a good 9months.. even the rego i put on lasted longer..

In all reality ive had to learn how to take off in a different way
Because i pretty much had no clutch
I would have to press the clutch then slowly release it then slam it again while shifting gears
In no way am i saying that you will need to do this but what i was taught by my structors was:
Get the car/rev it untill you are at 2,000 (i find a little under or over is ok)
SLOWLY! Release the clutch (like really ****ing slow)
KEEP the car at 2k
While slowly releasing the clutch slightly increase the throttle
Once the clutch is out (you will feel it) just keep driving
In reality (as pointed out) you have 2 options:
1. Kill your Clutch
2. Kill your Gbox
I had option 1 chosen for me (with my original TOOTH MISSING clutch)

spot on
its much easier to be shown than to keep trying the wrong way and doing damage (especially if you are unsure what the others really mean in their posts)

this is good to know ^^^ you are right. there is no way a driving instructor will teach anyone that. years ago on my L's my instructor told me i changed gears to quick! if i drove how he wanted me to i would be holding up the traffic to timbuck too

i personally launch;
- with clutch in
- rev to about 3-3.5K
- then release clutch and floor it (quickly)
works well for me, although i have a feeling its bad.
so i dont do it often. rarely even.

28-09-2008, 10:17 PM
i personally bring revs to 1.5-2k
slowly release the clutch
when it grabs, feed the revs in ever so slightly
keep releasing, keep feeding in accle
thats the best way to do it

What I've learned is to hold the handbrake up.
Bring the clutch to the point where its biting but not all the way out, slowly increase revs and adjust clutch down or up if its pulling forwards to much or not trying to move enough.
Then let down handbrake while simultaneously releasing clutch and accelerating. Remember you have to have the clutch at the right point for this (feels like the car wants to move).
You'll get some wheelspin but from what ive seen its a faster take off then dropping the clutch.

mohdmanutd
29-09-2008, 11:08 PM
the way i learnt to take in manual is by first learning & getting used to the biting point first......so just to know exactly were that friction point is......after mastering that you would have your feet reving the accelerator at a moderate rev of about 1.5-2rpms & once u feel the engagement of the car to pull off let go of the clutch and accelrate as you go........its best off learning in a quite place at night just to get the hang of it
