View Full Version : Getting rims for FD1, which tyres?
hey guys,
im planning to buy a set of rims in the Lenson Tenzo range from a wheel tyre place. So far the set im after is quoted at $1200 from various tyre shops. ie tempe, payless tyres. The tyres supplied are unknown, has any upgraded the tyres come with the set of rims? If so, which brands as I dont know the realibility of the tyres supplied? By spending $1500 with tyre upgrade b reasonable ?
your experience and input please

i too am looking for rims/tyres. Good tyres will be about $300 each. The lenso rims are generally around $1200 delivered then add another $1200 for decent tyres. Dont be tight with tyres.
yeah i know that i shouldn't be
I might get the rims with the stock tyres given and upgrade later and see how long they last for and trade them in.
How much you do think tyre places will pay for when I trade in my stock 15" steel+tyres. They have 12,000kms on them since beginning of the yr.?

why spend the $300 for the crappy tyres. Thats enough for 1 good tyre. Like i said, dont be tight with tyres as to me i see it as a safety issue.
For trade in, probably a few hundred. I have 16s alloys and i think i will get a few hundred for them. Hopefully enough for 1 good tyre. So really, just save up another $600-700 after trade in and you should be sweet.

^^^ FYI: I got quoted for $250 for my all my 16" tyres from TEMPE last time... :(

lol..even worst with 15s hubs. Well, almost 1 good tyre.
Edit: Tyres only for $250? Or including rims?
oh well as long as they do trade ins. i'll opt for a set @ tempe or payless tyres and do a tyre upgrade.
will let you guys know how it goes. prob within the next week or so.

nothing?
i just threw out our 16" audi a4 alloys with about 1000kms used up with contisport tyres when the dealership finally got hold of the 18"s.

Just get some hard compound tyres that way they will last longer...
stay away from the kuhmo ecastcys as they are soft compound and will wear away quicker...in the short term they do have better grip..
you can get decent tyres alot cheaper then 300 bucks a piece...
my falken 452's 225/35/19 were only 275 each and they are fair decent tyres...
PS tempe is a joke dont buy anything from there...

yeah i've heard of peoples bad experience's there at tempe, i think the default ones provide for ya are the kuhmo's. I'll look into it and get better tyres maybe yokahamas or toyo. How's the ride comfort from 15" to 17", would i notice a major difference in terms of traction on the rd? ride comfort tends to be more soft?

Well i said Kuhmo's cause lots of places use them as there standard tyre..
but they are good but u will be back there in less then 10,000ks getting new ones..
Dont always look for the brand.. just tell them u want a hard compound tyre..
i wouldnt be paying anything over 250 a piece for tyres as u dont need expensive ones for daily driving...
What are you from???? i can help you out with people i know which will hook u up with cheaper then any one has offered you...just meet them from doing my two cars and brothers...

i bought 16" tyres, very cheap 40 bucks ea,
to me its rubber look alike, made in china, maybe it made from half rubber half plastic
so when you drive the car on wet condition road, and you brake the car really hard,
you car sliding not stoping, the car itself actually stop, but it just keep sliding
its only two weeks after i bought this tyres, i got sliding accident, hit the car in front of me , its call gemstone brand, bridgestone copycat, i should sue this tyre shop for selling sht tyres

my recommendation would be Michelin Pilot Preceda, I found them to be an excellent tyre, 53,000km from first set. $230.00 each

53000 klms??? thats impossible. either you bought the tyres and didn't put them on til 53k later or you turned them into slicks and drove un-roadworthy tyres.

umm. no. my car has 25000kms. has about 50% thread left. the funny thing is that my car gets decent wheelspin almost every day. so im with buddha51au- 100% recommend these tyres!

Comments like that really make me laugh. For your information the tyres were fitted on the day i brought the car & furthermore if i wanted to wear them down to the wear indicators i could have possibly got another 2,000 or 3,000km from them. 3 of the tyres are in the shed as i will use them in the garden, unfortunately there was insufficient room to bring the 4th home.

Sorry dude i just checked them out. Yeah they do last that long but thats cos they run a harder rubber compound. Good sports tyre, but not rated as high as yoko ad07 or bridges adrenalin. I thought the preceda was the top of line sports model. my mistake :o

I found both wet and dry handling of the Michelins more than adequate on a light car like the civic in both wet and dry conditions. Obviously if it was a high performance car i would upgrade to the Preceda Sport.....they are good enough to be fitted as standard to the current TT Porsche, therefore would be good enough for any performance sedan. I was more tha happy to get 53,000km fron them but a major advantage is 90% open road work.

250 a pop for bridgestone adrenalines..........17/215/45

which tyre/wheel places can you recommend me?
i've checked payless tyres and seems to be a 4 week wait for the rims i want, tempe stock them and also taleb tyre(nexen tyres). Anybody heard of nexen, do they last and not too sure if it will be hard compound or not cause i haven't asked.
my budget would prob be 250 max for a tyre as its just daily driving and not like its a performance car ahhaa.! just want reliability and safety with a added peace of mind

mate. i really hope you are kidding, i mean you arent stupid... right? if you pay $40 a tyre, doesnt something in your mind say "hey, there has to be something wrong with these tyres"?
sure the tyre shop mightve sold you tyres which arent legal to be sold in australia, but at the end of the day, you purchased these. now unless the shop specifically told you that these tyres are ADR approved etc, then im afraid you wouldnt really have a claim.
buyer beware.

you'll never know, if i m not wrong it cost around 40 or 50 ea, i couldnt remember, but its really cheap, well i wasnt thinking at taht time, i need new tyres for my daily car
because i reckon all tyres the same
just beware this brand "gemstone", after 2 weeks the rubber start to peel, i took a pic of it
try to come back to the shop and complain, but then i was thinking, it best if i rather not buy anything from that shop again. sue people its not as easy as you think
