before anyone else suggests....

FEO oil - rated 10w-30w is the best for a honda DC2R. And all hondas IMO , stock or modified.

Just change it every 5,000ks and you will never have an issue.

Why is that?

I like to change my oil, depending on seasons etc...

Mr Spoon and Mr J's racing answer, when I asked them this exact question was... there is no "Right" oil for a DC2R. Stock OEM oil, is good, and fine to use. However... if you are circuit racing in hot Australian climates, a thicker, 10w-40 could be used. It's all down to personal preference. As long as it's not too thick, like a 10w-60 or something, then your engine wouldn't move.

:thumbsup::thumbsup:

i've tried a 5w30 and it burns too quick if regardless if i vtec a lot or not.. too thin and ends up on the catchcan to quickly

10w40 magnatec is a no-no... you can actually notice a reponse/fuel economy loss.

FEO is :thumbsup::thumbsup:

but benny... isn't FEO mineral? coz i wen't from 10w30 synthetic back to the mineral FEO and i always thought that was a no-no to once you convert....

if your on the cheap (which is a poofteenth difference considering 5000km change intervals) Castrol XLD lo-vis 10w30 is only like $23 at supercheap for 5l...

VTEC - just IMO. It is mineral , and you change it every 5,000ks or less so its never an issue. Correct its up to personal preference but from what ive seen and heard and experienced you cannot go wrong with FEO. IMO.lol.

Maybe that's an old wives tale? I switch back and forth.

No, I use 10W-40 in my DC2R in summer for track/street. IMO, I feel it safer than using 10W-30, or 5W-30 in hot weather. In winter 5W-30 = WIN.
From what I have found... with 5w-30, engine looses power around 115-120 degrees, where as 10w-40, I have taken oil temp to 120-130 and engine still goes strong. I'd also recommend using a thicker oil for an older engine (100,000km's +).

Yeah FEO, from Honda dealer... isn't it like $30 for 5L?

All of the above is IMHO, and experiences. LOL

You can use it if you want to. I stick to 0w-30, 5w-30, 10w-30, 0w-40, 5w-40 or 10w-40. Nothing else.

jus a personal thing.

colder times of the year: 5w-30, 10w-30
hotter times of the year: 5w-40 or 10w-40

with most of the hondas i've owned

atm im using motul 4000, loving it as well

i just get the good old OEM honda rev oil

$50 = 4ltr is bit pricey but you get piece of mind knowing that it was made for the DC2R

do honda dealers in aus sell that stuff?

I went from castrol edge 5w-30 to Royal Purple 10w-40.

I got massive amounts of white smoke out of the dog-leg at Wakefield =\.

I might stick to Edge.

:S

massive smoke on a track?
why is that?
also what's wrong with magnatec 10w40
i'm using it atm. another 2000km and i'll change it...thinking of trying some motul 10w50 or something to slow down the oil burn in my car...

Change the PCV valve first, before you try 10w-50

Wow, that's bad blowby then.... If it still doesn't work with 10w-50, then you will have to check to see if the oil control and compression rings are worn. If they are still alright, then you might have to rehone the bores and put in slightly oversized pistons. Ouch ouch ouch.

Or just keep topping your oil up every week.

Then wouldn't it be better to change them when it is time to change the timing belt?

like one of the members on here said. i am too losing power + gears crunching at times at high temp with 10w-30 motul oil (after 5-8k revs for 15mins). im gona change to castrol 0w-40 to see if that heelps. however during the winter it was fine =/ no gear crunching either. odd how oils can do so much

Your gearbox crunching has nothing to do with your engine oil. Change your transmission fluid if you haven't. Honda MTF is 75w80
