Hi guys,

I was thinking about getting a weekend warrior so me and my chickybabe can drive since she also needs a car to get to work.

I was thinking about getting a 180sx, yes i know its not a honda but no money to get a DC5R.

Any ideas what i should be looking out for the 180SX as i've seen carsales and they got low mileage ones going from under 10k-15k but what i am also scared is that they are defectable and damage etc.

Getting it checked out by........ if they have been in accident etc.

Opinions on this one --> too expensive?

Please advise me on this matter thanks.

Exactly

Look around the radiator supports for weld or bog..

And also tap around the back fenders to hear dead / flat sounds.

A magnet helps!

Look into importing one, sometimes there are some good ones. But it's a lucky dip!

May I also suggest this,

well a RWC should point out the defectables (if any) and a REVS check would tell you if the car has any fiance or if its been written off (whether statutory or repairable)

Read http://www.ozhonda.com/forum/showpost.php?p=1677895&postcount=4 in your relevant state will give you guidelines to legal modifications (if you don't wanna fork out the money for a RWC before you buy the car)

i am in the same boat i am not sure i should sell my civic for an import like a skyline or 180...

my mate has a GTIR and they have a lot of gearbox problems...

i would not mind looking at GT FORESTER...
that may be an idea..

The boxs cannot take the following

- EXTREME boost / power

- Idiotic drivers

Believe me, I owned a N14 SSS. I know what the boxs can / can't hack. I ****ed one up once apon a time.

If u wanna buy an s13, check engine compression as many of these have been overboosted. Check for turbo blow by as too much oil means turbos about to go. Check for smoke on boost as that would also mean turbo is about to go. SR20s tend to lose their big end pretty easily as well, so any sounds when idling is no good. As for crash repairs, some car check services do a paint depth check. They can check for all imperfections in the paint. So they can see if its been repaired before or not. Also chekc for leaks on the diff.

But i don't think i'll end up getting a 180sx, gf is opting for the new Jazz vtir.

this is key... a weak fridge magnet will do.. i used to use a decent magnet which can't detect bog because its strong enough to go through

If you're in sydney, you could try calling up Indy from IS Motor Racing to get a check up for the car. He does alot of inspections on evo's as I heard from the evo forum and he does it right. As I remember it costs around $200.

10000 - 15000 you can buy a 94-97 180SX

98-02 WRX

i know someone will sell his 98 skylive R34 GTT 2 doors for 15000 cash

RWD is real fun but might not as good as most good setting honda in corner [is ture, i can use my 94 civic in one corner with 90km, But i cant do this with a 02 WRX... might be not yet]... but just give you a idea... honda FWD's concering is really good !

mmm datsuns=money+time+more money, lol

every car that comes out of their factories just seems to have the worst engine bay area to work on (whilst the engine is still in the car, lol) a clutch that is imo way too small, piss weak gear boxs (S15s need the S14,13 gearbox to handle more power funnily enough), how they can be regoed as a four seater is beyond me, (for some time Nissan must think it a big joke even bothering with back seats in the r32, 180sx, 200sx, shouldve just deleted them entirely in favour of more room for a surf board, lol)

the only thing I like about the 4 banger rwd cars out of their factory is their weight distribution, agility, spooling of the rps13 when bumped up to 15psi, using a power fc, 3'' trust system, fmic and HKS Sequential BOV, but in reality its a matter of time before one of a few things happens:

Blow a turbo
destroy a gear box
main bearing failure
or theft/vandalism

other than that I'd spend more and buy a chaser or any other import... lol

mmm swift turbo :D those are going to be a cult classic one day, like the older models of the GTi :D

old cars....things break.

pretty normal I would have assumed.
you get what you pay for.

If it is indeed a weekend warrior, then it'll probably get driven in anger.
Keep it simple. Buy a stable base that has a expansive aftermarket support.

Try to keep gadgets to a minimum...just means less shit to break.
i.e ATTESSA, HICAS, ABS, TCS, AYC or VCD. etc etc etc.

Keep it raw, drive it hard. Have fun. :)
