Hey guys, I own a 1999 integra vti-r, and just today i noticed a weird sound coming from the exhaust. I have to admit, i have been vtec-ing a fair few times in the past week but i don't know if that sound can be attributed to that. The sound from the exhaust isn't constant. It gets louder and then dies out then gets louder again. But the sound is only there, or only can be noticed when the car is at idle. When i opened up the bonnet i could also hear an unusual sound which sounded like it was coming from something that was spinning.
What do you guys think it is?
cheers

is the car cold when its making this sound? Or is it after you have driven it?

I took the car to the mechanic yesterday, and he replaced the sparkplugs and the leads. One of the sparkplugs was burnt. But yea it stopped doing it. Now again today after drive it for 15 or so minutes the sound came back. I dont know what the hell it is.

If this is a vibration sound of any sort, and believe me an exhaust rattle/vibration can sound wierd, I'd expect it to come and go throughout the rev range with varied throttle input, and as metal parts heat up they expand, possibly enough to allow a muffler, resonator or cat converter to have its' partly corroded internals become loose and vibrate after 15 minutes of heat.

I've had this happen on our work vehicles on a few occasions.

i think i know the problem....it could be the spark leads, or the distributor caps, next to the VTEC solenoid...could have WATER IN IT! clean it and you'll be fine...had the some problem with my car but now it's normal...
