Hi guys. I have this noise that only comes on when i get to around 4k rpm. Its a harsh metal vibration noise. I hear it when im driving, or just revving. Any ideas what it could be????

your cat converter could be blown. do you have an aftermarket cat or other mods to the engine ?

just intake.

but it sounds like vibrating noise comming from engine? I will investigate further where its comming from.

gl with that - extremely hard for anyone else to know te noise you speak of !

But , since its relative to the exact REVS i think something is loose in your engine bay , and when it hits that exact harmonic it rattles. Check around the bay for something broken or loose

yeah, the noise is quite specific, in the way that it only comes on at around precisely 4k rpm. Anything above or below it, the noise goes away. I JUST HOPE ITS NOT MY ACTUAL ENGINE!!!!

if it was pinging... it would ping all the way to the end of the rev range right?

hey dude, ive got the same problem. thought it was the heat shield, but i had the that plus headers and exhuast changed and the vibrations still there. pissing me off. im thinking its the engine mount or something?

What happens if you get off the throttle at 4k suddenly? How many kms have you travelled?

86,000kms.

Noise happens at 4k, if throttle taken off seddenly, it just dissapears.

would it be covered under warranty? would my warrenty be viod because i have a fujitibo short ram intake?

Hey mate, i got a similar noise, mine some sort of rattling noise with metal. This happens with my car when its warmed up and is below 1k rpm.
After doing a bit of investigating i came to the conculsion that it may be my cat.
I determined that since i located the sound was coming from pretty much directly under my seat (from the outside).

I hope you got the same or similar issue as mine. If not i hope yours is not nothing major.

it starts to vibrate at arnd 3500 - 4000 rpm, take my foot off throttle and still there, but less noticable. if i clutch in the sounds disappears. and when u have ur window down, dam it pisses you off..

Dude... your either paranoid about EVERY noise your car makes... or its falling apart.

Has the noise only started since you had the fuel filter fixed?

If you still have the OEM intake, put that back on and see if it still makes the noise... if it does, take it back to the service centre and get them to inspect it under warrenty.

just a note - an engine wont "ping" or "pink" in neutral under no load afaik.

The noise is something loose or too tight...vibrating at that RPM harmonics.
Keep looking !

Hey hey! after some investigating, its definatley comming from under neath the engine bay, where the headers and cat hook up, i don't think its comming from the engine.

Is this covered under warranty????????

bennjamin

flange might be loose or not connected ? You will need to get the car up on a hoist and have a good look - you may of hit something and that is not covered by warranty.

taking my car to honda this after noon to investigate the noise. =) will let you guys know what it is.

If its just a manufacturing fault Honda will cover it under warranty for you. With any after market parts, if its the part that has caused the issue, it will not be covered under warranty. It it has nothing to do with parts you have changed, it will still be covered.

STOCK setup FTW when it comes to warranty.

Just got back from honda. They said its not the engine, and its something with the heat shield. They have to take it apart to get a better look. Its covered under warrenty. Its booked in this tuesday. Phew, its not the engine.

It was something in on the manifold, he was like poking a metal rod at it, to see if he could stop it.

Hope is goes away next tuesday.

when u clutch in it disappers????????????????????/

I have not tried that one yet!!!!!!! dammit! i've given something else to think about.

i was all sure that it was something to do with the heat sheild. I'll check if it anything to do with my clutch. If i clutch in and the sound goes away, than it something to do with the clutch, and NOT THE HEAT SHIELDS???????

yep, but i dont think the clutch is stuffed or anything. Have you tried sitting at 4000 rpm while in neutral? I still get the vibration.

maybe you can try taking off your heat shield then try it too. i dont have a heat shield and the sound is still there.

You guys have completely different cars so trying to associate the noises won't get yu too far. Clutch in takes load off the engine so the vibration doesn't travel through the chassis as much.

Hugo, get your engine mounts checked. They are a common weak point on the DC5.

nahh. its definatley nothing to do with the clutch. noise is there regardless of clutch in or not.

could be heat shield for the drivers side drive shaft.

I had the most horrible sounding noise at 2200 then again at 3000 rpm on my LS motor. Metal on metal rattling. Ended up being a bad alternator belt causing the ignition circuit to break down at a few operating points.

I seem to have the same rattling sound as well. Please let me know how the warranty check up goes. I might have to bring mine in as well. Only seems to happen for the first 15-20 mins from 1st to 3rd gear during low revs, once you get over 4rpm it does go away.

All fixed under warrenty. It was a washer which was part of the heat sheild, for right hand side drivers shaft i think. Part of the exhaust manifold. The washer was loose, causing vibration. All fixed, ordered in a whole new heat shield. All good now

Take it to honda. However mine noise did not go away when my engine was cold, so ur situation seems a little different.

I have been gettin the same/ish sounds on my 95 dc2... seems hard to judge exactly where comin from,(on load and in neutral, happens between 3k to 4k rpm) but did ur honda mechs say how easy it was to fix?

sounds like similar problem on diff car. Like i said. I was just a matter of changing the heat shield, as the anti vibration washer in the heat sheild was playing up.

My DC5S had a rattle on the Drive Shaft shield(if that what its called) since new.
Im thinking of adding silicone???

But , what is the temp. that it can handle ? Exhaust manifolds can glow red with extended use

Silicone on exhaust manifold makes me literally laugh out loud. Weld or bolt. Nothing else will stay on. High temp paint doesn't stick, what makes you think silicone will?

never said exhaust manifold!!!

on a dc5 the driveshaft +shield is right next to the exhaust manifold.
can you clarify exactly what you speak of ? IE take a picture ?

the part that vibrated on my DC5 is a shield that covers a black tube to the wheels. it has like a messy washer thing that fails to stop the vibrating cause apparently it cant be fixed.

it rattle on the side near the wheels not the Headers. i thought that tube is the drive shaft
