i know this has come up quite a bit in threads, but searching for it gives me results such as 'nintendo ds' - 'iphone' and - 'new and improved joke thread'. anyways im thinking im going to buy an ED civic and convert it to efi (either d16 or b16 if i can afford it). just wondering how hard this will be? and what parts i will need apart from fuel pump, injectors...etc etc? cheers

search for carb
there will be lots
you can do it a few ways
swap out the tank for an EFI CRX one
or run the stock pivkup pump to a surge tank, then run an electric pump for that
the underdash wiring and engnine bay wiring will have to be changed/modded to suit the new engine, but its good for if you wanna do a wiretuck..

You have multiple options
Trism pretty much outlined them all due to his pain of search...

yeah looking to do wire tuck. looks ****ing hot but cbf on my EG. a guy on here is selling a b16a motor+box+loom+mounts....how much more do i need for the conversion apart from fuel pump/efi tank? also, if the motor is out of an 89 crx (for the benefit of the doubt built in 89), and i buy a 90 civic built in 89, would i be able to get it mod plated? i know the engine has to be the same year or newer, but just wondering if i would be able to get away with that? otherwise d16y all-motor + fully stripped interior ftw

you can get away with any motor built after 89 modplated
i was gonna do a efi to carb conversion
but ive decided fcuk that
carby is win
so im building a SOHC vtec carby monster

yeah mang your thread is my source of inspirationz. ive found 2 possible project cars...dont know whether to go for red with polished wheels like this: http://image.superstreetonline.com/f/editorials/honda-super-street-magazine-jdm/8134082+cr1+re0+ar1/slammed-ef9.jpg
or white with yellowish green (you know, the rays colour) wheels. given my lack of funding it will probs be a d-series efi conversion. or b16a if i dont eat for a month :)

BBS wheels are hot
but so would the rays colour wheels
i wanted an ef9 front
but its like comparing facelift EK to non facelift
all it is is headlights, and the indicators int eh bars
its not a massive deal
i might end up getting an ef9 bar later, purely for the fact that they have an epic OEM lip, and mad aftermarket lips
motor wise, im going d series, and keeping carby, coz i like to be different, thats why im getting Ronal Turbos ;)

05-10-2008, 11:36 PM
how much are the ronal turbos setting you back? they look expensive + rare. haha one of the 2 cars im looking at has roof racks, i just bought a bike so i could have a mad bike as a bodykit. whats the best carby d-series engine? im looking to spend as little as possible pretty much haha

there is no best carby engine
there is only one carby engine lol
the D15.
but they use mad Keihhn carbies
im gonna use the d15 manifold and carbies and bolt them up to the d16 vtec
possibly even find some webber or similar carbs to use
the Ronals are setting me back about 1.3k

ive been searching around and seeing as you can buy a sohc vtec front-cut for like $500-$800, i'm thinking ill definitely go that route. yay team
Far out... been looking at exactly the same options this week for my EG4 but after all the reading I've done I've decided to stick with the carbies and see what can be done with them.

haha its tempting to just do a mini me, but after watching youtube videos and such i think it will be too slow.
if i convert to efi, are you able to just put in an electronic pump instead of the whole fuel tank? i dont see how tank itself could be much different. also what is involved with the under-dash wiring? i understand the ecu/engine wiring....

with the fuel pump just run a vl turbo external pump and use gravity feed from your tank. Just make sure you have more than half showing on your fuel guage. or say bye bye to fuel pump. Thats what my brother did

would that work if i went efi>carby would the carbs nd manifold straight bolt onto the d16 engine????

all d series heads have the same bolt patterns etc afaik

you can buy my whole keihin setup if you want. hopefully i'll be getting rid of them soon. just modifying my linkages (swapping to the pair of dcoe40 carbs has taken ages to find everything).
alternatively, you could yank out a whole keihin setup from a upull it or a wrecker or something. just make sure you have long spanners/sockets. i had to remove half the engine to get the damn carbs + manifold out.

not bad, i've been looking at a pair of BBS RM's (15x8 +13) but they would be setting me back 2.5k, still deciding.

Hey, just about the pump you want to do... I have the ED6 with a D15b Vtec motor, and all that has been done for a pump is a VL turbo pump... A Bosch 070 pump.... Has heaps of flow, but only up to 44psi... which could be a problem...
Ive been having issues with mine atm but it is fixed cause the power wasn't run to it properly... Not enough power = less pressure...
I have run my tank to almost empty, never had an issue with flow... The VL pumps can suck a tiny bit.. but don't count on it for sucking to much, well that is what I have read from my research...
Hope this helps....

stock carby tank and lines?
Webby_roller
20-10-2008, 08:20 PM
Yeh... all stock lines... I didn't do the conversion, but after being stuck under it for the past 2 days fixin the power issue.... It is using all stock lines with just some extra fuel lines added to go from the tank to the pump, and from the pump back to the fuel lines...
