Is it recommended or safe to use 2 of the same tyres at the front and 2 of the same tyres at the rear? Additionally, what if one pair has more tread than the other?

For example,
fronts are Bridgestone xxx 70% tread
rears are Dunlop xxx 30% tread

So long as the fronts are the same as each other, and the rears the same as each other , it will be fine.

I believe it becomes most of an issue in the wet, because if each tyre has different water dispersion properties, ur car might be all over the place.

Or if under heavy braking, obviously differnt rubber makes for differnt stopping differences.

cool. what happens in the event of a puncture where you replace with a spare? Is it safe to have 3 30% and 1 brand new wheel? Should the new tyre be put at the front?

i got similar arrangement as u...
90% potenza g3s at front, 60% continentals at rear... the rears a little more loose but my sway bar keeps it under control.. water dispersion isnt as great on the continentals but they do the job better than my old michelins... the g3s are definately worth having up front.. the traction is awesome...
as for flats... just rearrange the tyres so u get the most optimum grip etc..id go for 2 new wheels and leave the extra 30% as a spare...
