try wrap some electrical tape around the filter, that should provide more grip for the tool.

The honda oil filter. its super tight and honda carrys a "special" wrench tool to get it off. you can purchase it from them but i think that would be a waste because your going to only use it one time.

Seeing that oil filter should be hand tightened... try getting some gardening gloves and and used some strength and it should come off.

With the drain plug. Even if it is overtightened, just put a 17mm wrench on there and then hit it with a mallet or hammer, it will come off. That is what I did the first time I changed my oil. I was mad it was on tight, but I got it off.

As previously suggested - Use a filter removal tool. Failing that you're going to replace the filter anyways, so you can get a long shaft screwdriver and smack it into the filter and use it as leverage.

*Just make sure you hammer the screwdriver in close to the end of the filter opposite to the mating surface on the block (in order to ensure that you don't smack the screwdriver into the threaded dowel that the filter screws onto).

lol heres some ghetto styles get a leather belt loop it over it like a noose and
just pull the belt int eh direction the will produce a anticlockwise force

let u know if it works

heres a illustration if its too hard to understand i'll make a video lol

sooooo

i hot a hammer a 600mm long flat blade screw driver
hammered a ding into the side then i put the screw driver to the edge of the ding
and tapped it with the hammer in a anticlockwise direction which broke the seal
and was sweet  lol

LOL the belt is a great idea, and the same principle as the stanley tool i have which uses a cloth belt, same priciple as the steel tools...

you just gonna try and get leverage with a tool until it comes off, OR put a scredriver through it, but be careful

I just wrap the thick postie rubberbands around the oil filter, wear rubber gardening gloves and turn it loose with gorilla strength.

Of course, now I have the Honda oil filter tool, no more problems. :p

rubber bands or if you have a spare old rubber belt from an old car you can use that too.

i had alot of problems before also. I used the screw driver and ended up breaking the filter! then used the oil filter tool $10 at supercheap, its the one with the metal belt and its got studs in the belt to grip that one worked really well for me.

I like the belt but i dunno how well it will work cos i had a tool that works taht way and i still couldn't get the grip i needed to get off the oil filter (the filter was seized on cos it was a half cut)

The belt method has the acting force away from the axis of the filter, putting strain on the threads that the filter mounts onto, thus making it a bit more difficult to get off. The strappy tools that you can buy have a rigid handle, so you are turning it like you would a ratchet, thus putting the acting force right on the axis of the filter.

That is probably the reason why he couldn't get the filter off even with the belt.

could use one of these (http://cgi.ebay.com/ebaymotors/15pcs-Oil-Filter-Cap-Wrench-Socket-Cup-Tools-Set-10015_W0QQcmdZViewItemQQ_trksidZp3286Q2em63Q2el117 7QQhashZitem250318637907QQitemZ250318637907#ht_261 4wt_0) kits if you really want to
i find a slightly modified claw always gets my filters out without fail though
