My friend has a DA9 and everytime you put it in reverse it crunches.
But if you put it in 1st and then into reverse its fine.
and yes i clutched all the way in

What is the problem and how do I fix this?

Try clutching in, wait 3 seconds and then put it into reverse. Does it still crunch? Is it difficult to put into reverse when the engine is off?

I will ask. What do you think the problem could be?

I will ask. What do you think the problem could be?

Without more information, they are just guesses. So ask your friend those 2 questions.

alot of cars crunch when you go straight into reverse.. putting it into first gear first does solve that problem

ive been doing it for 10 years and it just becomes a habit

Reverse gear is a straight cut gear, unlike the rest of your gears.
My DA9 crunches pretty much everytime and has ever since i got the car 2 years ago.

I wouldnt stress too much, just try the techniques people mention.

yep gear crunching in reverse is a big problem in hondas they all have it, not mention the newer 2002+ models or so, i wouldnt know.

But as Freek said and i do also, clutch in, first gear, then reverse. Problem solved

Been a feature in every Honda gearbox I've had the pleasure of operating. Start worrying when it becomes very difficult to get into gear, even with 1st or 5th (and it'll be a while before this happens).

With Sammy342 car (my old da lol) i found that you can not put them into 1st gear and reverse gear with out cruching if you are not stationary.
