the answer is "yes"
but only 89' model or "personal import" for any other year model...
but for the personal import, u have to own the car in japan for at least a year and u've got a racing licence as well......

personal import I don't think u need racing licence, you only
need to own the car and stay in JPN for a year . . . .

i dont think it would be worth a year of my time to own an nsx just to save a couple f thousand?? :thumbdwn:

maybe just wait until there's UFO's flying around the streets, by then the 15yr rule wouldnt be in place so then u could import it, proly as an antique by then :D .

there is word that the 15yr rule is going to get abolished as a Law. This was meant to occur sometime this year, but maybe now it will be next year.
This is something I have heard...

it would be sweet to be able to import newer cars would it? :)

faijai you seem to have an obsession with stickers, you mention them on just about every post.
Is this some kind of sticker fetish, or were you deprived of stickers as a child?

There are 3 ways to import as far as i know.
1 - You've owned the car in japan for a period longer than 12 months and are currently an australian citizen (my idea would be to buy it and leave it over there, give it to a mate or ur jap gf or somethin n let them drive it and take care of it for 12 months, then bring it back :D)

2 - 15 yr rule, any car that is 15 yrs older can be imported

3 - Importing a car for track use. For this you need documents showing that you track (i cant remember exact details) as well as a level 3 cams licence (i think).. This car cannot be registered and only used on track

yea i think the 15 yrs rule is just to protect holden and ford...
what yr was the earliest NSX on the market?
90?
and any different between the 90 and 9x model?(pop up light)
i saw someone posted a NSX with body kit and turbo in japan somewhere
wow, real nice!

personally i dont think the 15yr rule is THAT bad... i mean we complan about hte AUSDM market so much... but if we arent supporting it we're the only ones left to blame...

i do believe for the private import rule to work u would have to live in JPN for the 12 months and be in ownership of the vehicle. So technically you can't buy the car hold it for one yr and be in australia at the same time.

You don't need a racing license (cams) to import an nsx privately. You do need to own it for a year.. You do have to have proof obviously, which includes your Japanese license(which is a pain in the arse to get), your parking permit approved by the local police station, registration papers, insurance papers and alien residency card. A lot of work but if you're here in Japan anyway it's (difficult but) not as difficult as it sounds.

Check out how my NSX is coming along on this thread;

As for it being worth coming to Japan for year thats an individual choice i guess, but i say definately so. ;) All my hobbies are here :D

A friend works here as an importer/exporter. I couldn't believe the prices people are charging after he told me what he pays for them.

Hey Guys,

I am in NZ now and can import any car here (to NZ) own it a year and then ship to Aus for you, costs about $2-4K on top of purchase price in Japan. I am more than happy to look after an NSX here on your behalf ;) and then ship it over in a year. I have been keeping an eye on the older NSXs and they are still fetching good money though. An EVo8 with delivery kms is cheaper to get into NZ.

EK9s and DC2Rs are cheap here though. Early DC2Rs with the long head lights etc (96) can be had for as low as $11K with around 100K kms. EK9s are expensive in NZ but cheap to import and buy in Jpn.

to do a personal import, you need to show customs your passport.. you need to show that you were in the country (where the car is from) for the whole year, or most of it.. so unfortunately you cant just hold on to the car for a year for someone then import it to OZ..

:(

gotta find a way to work out of NZ for a year... damn IT bust..

hahaha
